I'd have to say in general, my scale has not made me happy much. But the past two days, I've gotten up at 6:00 a.m., weighed, and then walked one hour and then it went down at 8:00 a.m.

Day one, I did not eat, and I am pretty sure I may have sweated it out and it was also after a bathroom trip.
Day two, I did eat a spoon of peanut butter and I don't think I sweated much.

How weird. I'm gonna love it while it's happenin'.

I did not eat before my walk, between 6:00 a.m. and 8:00 a.m. That is not the norm, I usually always try to fuel my body with at least a little something before I walk, like I did today, with the peanut butter.

You're going to drive yourself nuts weighing multiple times a day and trying to guess what made the scale go up or down.

It would be better to weigh yourself once a week.

I don't even have a scale. I weight myself about twice a year at a travel bags section of a department store

I weigh myself every three days so that I can make corrections to my eating plan, if necessary. I've added a few carbs back in because I was waking up hungry at 4 am and not getting back to sleep.

I'm totally cool with weighing daily, in the morning. I accept that some days I won't like the number, and I also rejoice in the fact that I can get the number to go down, even if I don't know how I did it. I know it's not "true fat." What matters to me is seeing and recording the lowest number possible for the day. And don't worry, I'm not in any danger of going too low. I'm 5'0 and 163 right now.

What I meant is that your weight will normally fluctuate by a pound or two during the day and trying to figure out what causes those little fluctuations can drive you nuts. Maybe you can figure out a time of day when you generally weigh the least and just get on the scale during that time of day, rather than getting on all day trying to see the lowest possible number for that day.

In the long run, knowing that you got dehydrated and got down to 160 for a couple of hours won't help you, because then you have to drink water again and the weight will come back, since your body needs that water. I think checking throughout the day can lead to disordered behavior like taking diuretics or laxatives any time you see a slight increase. It's better to know that your weight will naturally fluctuate during the day and just look for a downward trend over the course of a week, not a day, because that tells you that you're on the right path toward real weight loss.

For me this is the norm. I NEVER eat before my morning cardio and I firmly believe its one of the reasons my body fat is so low. For me, this works amazingly well. Carb depleted after sleeping for 8-9 hours so when I run I tap into my body "reserves" for fuel instead of whatever food/carbs I recently ate. I'll have a cup of black coffee, then I am off for a 3-9 mile run or a sprint session.
