As a former high school teacher, I would see students enter 9th grade looking like normal kids, and by the time some of them get to 12th grade, they are huge. I cannot believe that all of it is mental illness. I personally think that the additives in foods today have something to do with it, since when I eat snacks that I do not personally prepare, which is rare, I always want to eat more. Imagine a diet of nothing but packaged food.
I'll say what I think we are all thinking: women who get fat--like anyone bigger than me really--should just be locked up in a room with only water until they get themselves sorted out. You know you think that when you see one of these out of control ladies irl!

There's a huge psychological component to over-eating...it's about much, much more than the food.

For example, many overweight people have been sexually/mentally abused.

Overweight people deserve all our love and support...

Until you've walked a mile in their shoes, please don't judge.

He left the clinic, went home, gained his weight back.

One time in Vegas, I was at a casino, eating at the buffet, and saw these obese people, riding their scooters around the buffet, loading their plates. Come on, if you are so obese you cannot walk....maybe being at a buffet is not a good idea. Just saying.
We don't all shake our heads at others' addictions or problems. And personal responsibility is for each person to decide. An obese person with an eating disorder doesn't impact me in any way, so why would I act as if that person is harming me or ruining my day simply because he/she is morbidly obese? Live and let live.

I'm trying to lose 275 pounds, i can barely walk, I've suffered many injuries in my life. I've been overweight all my life. I've missed out on millions of things in my life because i am fat. But my life still has value, I'm a musician, an artist, and a writer. I'm not ugly or old, i work out in the pool, i work full time at a good job, i am in love with my partner. I help those i can and donate what i can. I am confident, outgoing and have many friends. And yet punk ass kids, self centered men, cruel women and unhappy couples think my life is worthless because my problems are different than theirs. They DARE to condescend me by acting "nice" like I'm a child or mentally disabled. They offer false encouragement and fake c smiles to avoid making any real human connection with me, because to them I'm not human. Women don't find me threatening, they see me as a non entity in the dating game. That's a mistake. They want and need to believe i am not their equal because they are full of fear and they are ignorant. They are ANGRY that i am happy. HOW can i be doing better than them?! There's nothing you can do about that as a big person. Just live your life, and treat those unhappy people with pity. You must continue building yourself up, don't stop to respond to haters because you're above that ****.

And the sad cases, people who have lost hope? 600 lb cat ladies? That will always happen, regardless of weight. There are plenty of 100 lb cat ladies ****ting themselves and starving because nobody cares. If not obesity, it could've been meth or violent crime or sex addiction. Any of us can end up in need of HELP. Those who belittle me for being fat, belittle the poor for being ignorant, the elderly for not planning ahead, are selfish and short sighed. They have done nothing to help me, nothing to help the sick, the mentally ill, the elderly. They are terrified by their own inability to affect change in the world, by their own uselessness, and blame others. Thet feel upset at poor people because their existence makes them feel guilty. They feel angry at fat people because they force them to face their fears. To face the human drama which is easier to ignore. Easier to say it is not valid.

Cut those haters out of your life!

Why do you direct this only at women?

How come you, and other people here, feel it is your place to comment and pass judgement on anyone else's body?

The hate in this thread just goes to show that people can claim to be "beautiful" on the outside but inside it is another story.

Wow you hit the nail on the head. Your problems are different than theirs. Think about what their problems must be to make them so hateful and ugly on the inside. They are miserable people and they need to put other people down to try to make themselves feel better. If you think about it, their problems are much worse than yours. There used to be a t-shirt that said, "I may be fat but you're ugly and I can lose weight." That goes for what is in the heart, too.

Do I think there is a certain amount of personal responsibility for a person's health? Yes. But sometimes there are reasons people struggle with that and usually those reasons are very painful and nobody else's business. Everybody has their own burdens to bear.

Half the time these judgmental people don't even understand weight. The number of fat cells we have when we get out of adolescence is pretty much the number of fat cells we will have our whole lives unless we get liposuction or another medical fat removal process. Some of that is determined by genetics. Some of that depends on what we do and eat when we are children and teenagers, a time when we really are not knowledgeable or even responsible. (That is why I think parents who let children become obese are really committing child abuse. Those children don't know, and they only eat what is given to them, and now they will have this fight their whole lives.)

The point is that fat cells only increase or decrease by around 20%. You can't really get rid of them entirely without medical procedures, just shrink the fat that is stored in them. This is why some people will never be thin. They have too many fat cells in the first place. Fat cells are like raisins. Just because you take the water out of the grape that doesn't mean the fruit isn't there. There is still something there and it takes up room, just not as much room. So it's not as simple as exercising, dieting, and "getting themselves sorted out." What clueless ignorant comments.

If you were a perfect size 6 these people would then hate you for something else. It would just take them longer to find something to hate because it would be less obvious than your weight, but they would still hate you because they are just hateful people and that's what hateful people do. They hate. Probably hate themselves the most actually.

As stated in other threads, wheat has appetite stimulating properties that can cause many people to overeat and consume far more calories than necessary. If you cut that food out entirely, you will quickly lose weight, feel hungry far less often, consume hardly any snacks between meals, and end up eating less calories a day. You can take my word for it and many people I know as it has definitely improved their overall quality of life.

Evidence? Research? Where is it?

Morbid obesity is curable. But realistically, only by surgery. Sorry to say that your "trying to lose" that much weight is a recipe for failure. You undoubtedly already know this. I just cringe to hear the forlorn hope in your statement.

The statistics say that 95% of diet/exercise fixes for morbid obesity will fail, either immediately or with total (or more) weight regain within 1-5 years. Even the people who triumphed on TV's Biggest Loser have regained weight.

I have 1 relative and 6 friends who have had weight loss surgery, 5 had the bypass and 2 the lap band. (The lap band is for those who have about 100 pounds to lose.) All the procedures were outstandingly successful and all 7 are healthy and happy about their weight.

Agree that the discrimination against people who are fat is uncalled for.
