I recently started taking an estrogen/progesterone birth control mainly for an unrelated issue, but also to help make it easier to lose weight. My doctor told me that it would take about a month to establish itself in my system. How do estrogen and progesterone assist in weight loss? Do they signal my body to store fat in my hips instead of my stomach and/or increase my metabolism? Will I have to wait until the end of my first month on the pill to start seeing results? And for those of you who have been in a similar situation and were able to lose weight, how easy and fast were you able to do it once you got your hormones in check?

It doesn't make it easier to lose weight. In fact, in the patient information you received with your prescription, you should see that weight -gain- is one of the possible side effects.

If you want to lose weight, eat less. If you want to lose weight healthily, eat less and move more.

I gained weight on the pill.

Not as much as I gained during my pregnancies though.

I'm on the pill and actually dropped 10lbs...however, I'm using the Pill to regulate my hormones as I travel thru the Hell I like to call Peri-menopause. I know plenty of people who did the opposite when using the Pill for BC...they all gained weight...10-20lbs each.

If you want/need to lose weight, there is no pill out there that will help you.....you need to control what goes in your mouth and you need to exercise daily. That's the only thing that will help

+1. The only way to lose weight safely and truly effectively is through diet and exercise. One of the best ways to stave off hunger and keep your metabolism high can help is to eat smaller, frequent, healthy meals. Chart your calorie intake. Combine that with cardio (not just walking), plus strength training 5-6 days a week. That will really help you lose weight.

I am actually using the pill to regulate my hormones. Because of my condition, I will need to go on another pill when/if I want to get pregnant.
