Sort of occurred to me this morning on the way home.
I believe I eat healthy. Beans, brown rice, fish, lentils, split peas, veggies in my salads, feta and powdered cheese, my bread is often croutons, pastas, stews. Tea, skim milk, red wine. I don't do ice cream, chips, crackers. My coffee is black and plain. I prepare food from raw sources and don't buy prepared.
But is it balanced? I hardly ever look at the food pyramid on my frig to check. I try to eat two meals a day.
I suppose taking a multivitamin and Vitamin C, hope it covers anything I miss.
But as free swinging adults, do we eat a balanced diet?
food/eating is a treat- I like to cook, and I like different flavors
I eat what I do like , what I enjoy - whether its fruit, seafood, veggies, meat, and desserts
food is one of lifes' treats and rewards, and the older I get, im eating more of what I like than what "i should have"
I have maybe one cold a yr, haven't had the flu in years-the dr. says my vitals and blood work are great, I have no allergies, feel stronger than 30 yrs ago
yeah, I do resist the urge of stopping for ice cream a couple times a day, but I don't deprive myself of what I enjoy - life is too short, and ive already seen too many healthy people die young, people who walk/jog everyday, eat a so called healthy diet and get cancer/heart attacks
I could get run over by a log truck on any given day- hopefully ive had an ice cream recently and die happy!!
Well, I do eat what would be considered a balanced diet even though the guidelines keep changing. My problem and this is why I am not a little old lady, but a big old lady: I use too many sauces, probably too large of meals and the wine bottle doesn't last quite as long as it should. I am sorta an oversized Julia Child's but can't begin to cook as well as she did.
This is the part of your message I'm struggling with. You try to eat two meals a day? So if you don't try, you only get one?
Completely foreign concept to me. I eat three meals. And snacks. And there's no "try" involved.
