What do you do to lose a few pounds and you can't exercise?

I gained 10 lbs. over the holidays (blaming the fruitcake and cookies) and had planned to "walk off" the extra weigh because long, daily walks had been working well for me to control my weight. With our snow, rain, and caliche mud here in New Mexico, the ground is impossible to walk on right now (and we don't live near pavement, sidewalks or a mall). I'm going to try eating half the usual portion of any food or beverage.

I have been using Leslie Sansone "Walk Away the Pounds" and I really like that on the winter days. The DVD that I got has 4 sections to it, 1, 2, 3, & 4 miles. The one mile takes about 20 minutes including warm up and cool down.

For snacks, nothing but fresh veggies and fruits. The more sugar and flour that you can eliminate the better. I avoid all "fake" sugars too and never drink soda. When you hungry always try drinking some water before you resort to snacking as they claim that sometimes you feel that you are hungry but you are actually thirsty and that seems to be true.

As you know, 10 lbs is quite a bite to lose if you are closer to your ideal weight. Being reasonable and expecting to keep it off, you are probably only looking at losing about 2 to 3 lbs per month because anything else is usually unhealthy.

I can't figure out if you're serious or not.

There's Tofur's obvious answer of eating less. And there's no law saying that you can't exercise at home.

We have had a very cold winter, although today it was in the low 50's, many days have had high temps of 30 or below. Although we have a nice treadmill, I am unable to use it because of surgical hardware in my ankle that acts up when I exercise on the treadmill.

That being said I do lift weights 4 times a week (upper body - 4 exercise, 35 reps - 2 sets), do push-ups, lots of Pilates, yoga, crunches, planking, lots of complex and simple stretches, etc. Although I have taken classes in Pilates and yoga, there are tons of free videos on the internet that a novice could follow. I run up and down our 2 flights of stairs, walk in the malls (early in the am) and generally do what I can to keep slim. If there is a will, there is a way....you can figure it out if you really want to.

Ummm...eat less. Unless you're looking for a less obvious solution?

You cannot out run or out walk a bad diet. You need to eat less calories than you burn. Here is a hint, you do not burn a lot of calories walking. Eat less and you will do just fine.
