We're fat? I wonder why? We're being hawked garbage.
And when you eat like that, you lose your taste for healthy foods.

I was watching a programme on cops in Alabama the other night and couldn't get over how obese many of them were.
It's no wonder they shoot fleeing suspects so often because they're clearly too fat and unhealthy to chase them.

Food porn is rampant. Commercials want to tantalize us with showing close ups of fast food and then tell us we can get it for a very cheap price. Then we have food shows that glamorize eating, and of course the most disgusting shows of all, the ones where the person tries to eat an impossible amount of food. Then tie in all the cooking shows. Its really no wonder how huge we are.

Don't blame it on TV advertising. Blame it on stupid or undisciplined people who can't keep themselves from shoving unhealthy stuff or too much stuff in their pie hole.

Of course it comes down to personal responsibility. However obesity is tied to poverty. When you have people who are on limited funds cheap fast food, and prepackaged foods become the norm. Also in rural areas the access to healthy food can be limiting. No one is making anyone eat fast food. But when you live in a community were obesity is normal and family and friends all eat really terrible food, sometimes its just too much to overcome.

Just to comment, I was recently dating a woman who was raised in Louisiana before moving away. She said when she goes back to visit family that EVERYBODY there is fat. She said she'd get fat if she moved back.

I'm pretty sure the psychology is that if everybody around you is fat you get used to seeing it and accept it as normal. And hey! That Cajun food is really good! You just can't eat it all day every day without some moderation.

There's probably a lot of places in America where everybody is fat. They keep saying 1/3 of America is obese (or whatever figure) but I'm not seeing it here (L.A.). I see fat people but not 1/3 of everybody I see. I go to the mall and see mostly fit people. Maybe the obese buy their clothes at tent and awning stores.

Well, whatever. Most of us participating in this topic have the right ideas and are just working to get fit. It's a lot harder to get fit than it is to stay fit, and getting fit takes time.

According to this list, L.A. is at 80 on the top fattest cities in the country. The city I live (see above) is #3. Not good is all I can say. Chicago believe it or not is 88.

The first 24 cities are located in the southern part of the U.S. What could be the cause?
