A lot easier sure but cheaper ? Don't make me laugh.
Stuff like pasta is very healthy - it's all the cheese and cream that it's swimming in which is bad for you.
Buy some rice,a packet of frozen garden peas and fry and chop up a few bits of chicken with a small bit of oyster sauce and you've got a healthy Asian meal.
Mrs and Mrs Big Butt just can't be bothered.
I never said buying fast food was cheaper. I was responding to a poster who said its so cheap to buy whole chickens etc in the grocery store. No its not, not in some parts of the country. Many would tell you that pasta isnt good for you and neither is rice due to high carbs.
Judgemental arent you?

Apples, something healthy, occasionally $.99/lb but more like $1.99 or more per lb. and this isnt whole foods. Beef is almost out of sight for poor people. Its cheaper to buy junk than eat well.
I think some of you who think its so easy to eat well need to get out more and see the real world esp in some parts of the country where prices are exorbitant.
Costco still has a roast chicken for $4.99 (even in Hawaii).

That made about 6 meals for my husband and myself, and then I pressure cooked the carcass for the dogs.

(I'm not so sure Costco chicken is healthy, it tastes too good, and I think they inject it with crack. )

Pasta is not a good choice if you happen to be on a low carb diet. But a little pasta with some veggies and a little protein does not cost a lot and is 10 times healthier than fast food.

You can buy a precooked chicken from $5 to $7 depending on where you shop. You can also buy a whole uncooked chicken and get a huge bang for your buck. when all the chicken is used use the bones for soup. Dried beans are cheap and super healthy. A bag of rice costs very little and can be a side to stir fry's and other dishes. Put the beans and rice together and you have a complete protein.
If people plan, shop sales, and are willing to cook they will save money in the long run and lose weight and be healthier.

Exactly. I made a lentil ($1.50) soup (stew) with smoked ham hock (2 for less than $5), some sliced kielbasa (couple bucks), whatever veggies were in the fridge (a potato, onion, spinach, carrots, etc.) and that made a huge pot. We ate it for dinner, leftovers, lunch and froze the rest.

Casseroles, soups, stews, stir fries, all can be made for whatever diet someone is on, unless they are extreme. Almost always healthier than food from a restaurant, and cheaper than fast food.

Rice is an essential part of the diet of hundreds of millions of people across Asia and China and a perfectly healthy food.
Like sugar, bread, pasta, potatoes, cheese, burgers, fries,mi lkshakes, chocolate, alcohol and anything else you can think of - PROVIDED THEY'RE EATEN IN MODERATION !
It's clear you know diddly about nutrition, particular if you're unable to buy reasonably-priced chicken at a store near you.

And it takes so little time and prep to do.
If you can be bothered.

Great chicken stock for the stew/soup as well.

I just came back from the grocery store I usually shop at. Not the most expensive chain around here. But heres a sampling of prices
A whole 6lb chicken was 7-8 dollars depending on producer but the store brand wasnt any cheaper than Perdue. And most of these were a little smaller than 6lbs. Organic was between $12&14 depends on manufacturer.
Whole chicken legs were $1.59/lbs
Beef starts at around $3.59/lb, and goes higher easily.
Cheapest of all the meats was grd turkey.
No costco close to where I live. There use to be one 1.5 hrs away but I think they closed.
Anyone who thinks its easy to eat well and healthy on very little money is very lucky where they live. Not all have that opportunity.

What in the world does knowing about nutrition have to do with being able to,buy reasonably priced chicken? Bizarre statement.
