has anyone used this as seasoning/salt alternative/cheese alternative? what do you all think?

Yes, it's excellent on popcorn. Certain types are better than others. The flaky yellow kind you normally find in bulk bins is the best, taste-wise, in my opinion. It actually has a nice buttery, cheesy, nutty type flavor. It has lots of vitamins, etc., too. It's good for you. I actually really like the flavor.

I've bought cans of nutritional yeast before that I didn't like the flavor of. It's the finely ground, brownish type. Look for the yellow bigger flakes. It may be called brewer's yeast instead of nutritional yeast in some places.

I just can't get into it. Tried a few brands, but they all taste and smell like fish food flakes to me.

I get it from the bulk bin at Sprouts. A big bag of it lasts forever unless you're making a bunch of fake-cheese stuff, which I don't. I use it only to season stuff.
