Should one have something on their stomach before a workout?
Or, does it make any difference?
There are different schools of thought on this.
For me, it depends on the workout, the goals, and time of day. I always do my cardio workouts EARLY morning on EMPTY stomach because I have found that for me, and the overwhelming majority of people I train(ed), (in addition to many professional studies done on this as well), it is far superior to burning fat (cutting/reducing bodyfat %) than any other method I have done.
If someone is looking for gains in size or increase in strength, I dont think empty stomach exercise will help them reach their goals better than properly fueling for the exercise and their goals.
Despite being a big beer drinker, I attribute my 6 pack and low body fat % to me doing my cardio on an empty stomach. This is usually around 9-10 hours of having no food - I dont eat after 9:00PM and usually do my morning cardio betwen 7:00 AM - 10:00 AM after only having cup of black no-sugar added coffee.
I can't work out on an empty stomach. I work out about 1 hour after a full meal. But I have neurological issues, so if I don't have food in me, I get lightheaded and pass out cold, and that's not good.
It makes no difference other than personal preference. Whichever one allows you to have better workouts. You don't burn more fat or gain more muscle On an empty stomach versus a full stomach

I really really hope that is true, and I wish it is true enough that everyone can unequivocally state it, just like we can unequivocally state that CICO will always produce weight loss, but then people will always argue and give their special snowflake circumstances and reasons why they didn't. Or start bla-bla-blaing about insulin levels, leptis, fat-burning modes, blood sugars, bla bla bla.
Just freaking eat less and move more and be patient and soon enough, you will be less fat than you were 6 months ago!
I usually run on an empty stomach (or just a mandarin orange or some grapefruit), but for strength training I have to eat beforehand or I drag ass and can't lift as heavy.
When I used to work out early morning, I would get dizzy if I didn't eat a little something. Do you get dizzy? Do you have energy? It's going to be up to yourself. I would drink a small protein drink at about 100 calories just to get something.
What's the definition of an empty stomach? If I eat lunch at noon and eat nothing until after my workout at 5 I don't really consider that an empty stomach. 8+ hours is an empty stomach
