The doctor thinks I might have PCOS. I think I fit the description, as I normally have heavy abnormal periods, weight gain, dark facial hair, possible gluten sensitivity, etc.
I heard that a vegan diet with natural fat is good for this problem, but I'm pretty sure I can't just eat green vegetables; my body will probably feel like it's not getting enough food. What should I do?
A little more information:
I weighed in at about 160 pounds when I went to the doctor about six months ago. I now weigh about 171 pounds!
I'm only 5'6, so this is not a normal weight for me. I would like to shed the fat and get rid of this hormone imbalance, but I don't know what to do.

I do not know about PCOS and what you should eat, but I will tell you a plant based diet (vegan) is way more than eating green vegetables.
I have been eating vegan for the last 3 1/2 weeks to see how it fits in my life. So far I have never been hungry, have tons of energy, my workouts are great and I have lost weight. So far so good. I do not know if I will stay the course, but for now its great. I do know that even if I go back to eating meat it will be much, much less.
Since PCOS is related to insulin resistance, a low carb diet might help you. Lean meat like chicken breast or fish, vegetables, only small amounts of starchy foods like rice, potato or pasta.
My daughter in law has PCOS and has had trouble getting pregnant. Her OB/GYN told her to try to eat more Paleo a few months ago and now she's pregnant.
