Yes, typically. But my doctor told me that the FDA recently approved it for weight loss as well.

Oh, okay. It's not on their website yet.

It was so EASY to stick to my eating plan, I'd like that kind of help again--but not if it risks my health in other ways.
Which drug were you on and what were the side effects?

Going to go out on a limb here and suggest it was probably phentermine.

Effexor, for anxiety. GI bleeding (listed as "extremely rare" on my info sheet) was the deal breaker.

Most appetite suppressants only work for so long.

And sometimes, going off of a drug with a side effect of appetite suppression can be terrible- I was on Topamax for migraines in college. I gained 30 pounds when I went off of it.

I'm actually back on it for headaches/migraines again, as of about 5 weeks ago. I'm on a very low dose, but my weight loss rate increased slightly. I have PCOS so it takes a lot of work to even lose 0.5 pounds/week. From December to June, I lost 11 pounds and my doctor was very pleased with that progress. I wasn't. I've been pushing harder. I lost 2.8 pounds in June, before Topamax, which is actually good for me. I lost 3.6 in July. I started Topamax the second week. I have no idea if it is the actual reason or not. So far for August, I'm down 2 pounds, so it will be another good month for me. At this rate, I'll be normal sized in 50 years. Kidding. But it feels like it.

Yes, the power of your own mind is more effective than any drug.

Speaking of Victoza and diabetic drugs to help w/weight loss, taking a berberine supplement might help without the negative side effects of drugs. It acts a lot like Metformin. It may be especially helpful if a lot of your excess weight is around your midsection, which could indicate metabolic syndrome or problems processing carbs. I lost and have kept off around 20 lbs using it. You take between 500 and 1500 mg per. day (best to start with a low dose and slowly work up to what you can tolerate; some people get an upset stomach if they take the highest dose). A decent brand will cost around $25 for 120 500 mg capsules. I take one capsule three times a day. I'm not diabetic, but had most of the other signs of metabolic syndrome.
