I'm getting a tad fascinated by the widely different ways responders to this thread react to carbs.
It illustrates how very differently we utilize macros; .
Yes, it's been interesting to me to see what I can eat and what I can't ... I've been checking my urine for ketones, YES I KNOW this is not the most accurate method but I am looking for changes based on what I eat and I am seeing that. It's very helpful and it's interesting as well.

For sure.
I was kinda surprised to see I am in the "uses carbs poorly" group as there is NO diabetes nor obesity in my family, I mean none at all in any relatives for generations back (nor cancer; we are all mentally ill af though ) so you'd think I wouldn't be a "prediabetic" type, nor was I until post-menopause when 30lb of fat deposited itself around my formerly tiny waist, despite NOT having changed food intake nor activity level at all.
Wonder if there's a menopause/hormonal change correlation for those of us who fall into this category; all my carb/weight related symptoms i.e. restless leg, NO energy, cold sweats, feeling like crap in general commenced w/menopause and disappeared after removing carbs/grains (did not expect that).
from what I've heard (I'm 42, haven't hit menopause yet) menopause can change a lot of things. i can tell you that my metabolism took a nosedive when I hit 39-40, so losing weight required more effort than in my 20s. In my 20s, I could get away with light exercise and sporadic minding of my diet. Not so now.
at 42, I am far more active and to be honest, being active has been the greatest boost in my life.

Eff that being active, exercise is torture
If I weren't a dog owner who makes sure my dog gets proper exercise I'd never walk the 2h/day I do nor 2min/day.
I was always sedentary af but had a great hourglass figure (except always had short stubby legs ew) until menopause at 49. Same time I turned from hotness to hagdom and this year bought not one but FOUR pairs of Crocs -two are fruit print- (you'd have had to hold a gun to my head to make me wear even flats let alone Crocs, before menopause).
I just started Keto to try it out because while I realize it's not Atkins, when I did Atkins years ago, low carb too I had pretty serious sleeping problems. I am on day 3 down 4 pounds and am having sleeping issues which I normally have, but they are even worse now. I do feel good during the day, no Keto flu, so to speak.
I have mostly been eating eggs, bacon, hamburger patties with cheese, and some steamed broccoli. I did buy some Atkins bars just for some sugar taste, they are only net 2 carbs, and they are helping me with my sugar cravings. I realize that is not pure Keto, but so far it's working for me.
I plan to buy some Calcium supplements and increase my Magnesium doses at night. If need be I may even just eat my carbs at night and eat none during the day to help with sleep.
I felt a little bit weaker today haven't had a carb yet, but it's definitely worth it to get the results I am getting. My previous eating plan just wasn't working and when I look at the amount of carbs and refined sugar I was in taking it's no wonder why I ballooned up in spite of exercising 5 times a week.
This eating plan is easier than others because you never feel hungry due to the fat intake.
I am intermittent fasting like Dr. Berg suggested and I think that is why I have lost 4 lbs in 3 days, could just be water weight we'll see. I have about 30 lbs. to lose which I feel I can do in 2 months then it will require the discipline to stay on the plan.
Good luck to everyone!
I've been Keto since the January 2017 and feel great. This 'diet' becomes a way of life, way of eating. I have cheated maybe five times-lightly-and have not regretted. Lost 30 pounds and have been stable.

You're a riot
I wouldn't call it hagdom, we all embrace the change of life in different ways. As long as you're happy, that's all that matters, right? I was sedentary throughout my 30s after birthing two kids and working a stressful job and it was at 40 that I decided to change things up. That, and health problems were knocking at my door (because I was thin in my 20s and obese in my 30s, and that obesity caused an "early onset" development of two major, life threatening issues).
I lift weights not only to keep in shape but as a hobby and I've never felt more alive. Ever. This "mature woman" has guns. I feel energetic and in far better condition than I've ever felt before. I had heart arrythmias that disappeared due to cardio. I've returned to wearing the clothes I used to wear. Maybe this is my version of "mid life crisis" but I'm enjoying the ride!

My present to myself at the age of 50 was to do a triathlon. A trainer I had two years previous mentioned that she did them occasionally and I thought to myself at that time that I would never be that in shape. She said that I should do one someday and I thought she was cuckoo. At the age of 50 I was in the best shape of my life. I had stamina and guns!

Hey I have...long matronly skirts and a whole selection of Crocs...
Like Rialese and Lucky, I exercise strenuously. One hour, 150 bpm or higher, drenched in sweat (of course it's a high humidity area). Then things like bike rides with dog, hiking, paddle boarding, etc.
I genuinely like vegs and grains, always have since a child.
My diet is not centered so much around losing weight (though I would like to dump 5 lbs or so), my health is more of a consideration. While my husband prefers a more protein based diet - too much keto causes my autoimmune conditions to flare horribly. I need all those amazing micronutrients found in whole foods (not meat).
I still haven't been able to figure out why I was coming in pre-diabetic (testing has shown almost no spikes since), though my protein may have been too low, I've upped it a tad in consideration of DH.

Great job, wow! I want to do a Tough Mudder but I'm intimidated :/ Ultimately (who knows when that will happen) I want to seriously weight train and compete. That would involve me having to go to another more specialized gym and I'm not sure if I can put in the time.
