Has anyone tried this diet ? If so, did you ease into it or slowly convert to it ?

Just jumped in - lost 90 lbs. - still on it.

General rule of thumb macro : Goal weight = fat, in grams; half that = protein, in grams; carbohydrates under 20 grams.
Adjust accordingly.

Jet, when did you start the diet and how long did it take to lose the weight? I'm not very overweight, but getting that potbelly older men are notorious for. Hear it's (ketogenic diet) very good at getting rid of belly fat.

I stuck to it mostly for 13 yrs. Actually did wonderfully on it. Stayed slim.. was taken off all cholesterol meds, great health. Until I traveled to another country.. became very ill and could not cook for myself so I ate what my husband was able to prepare for a good while and need to get back to it. I don't know why but I'm having trouble jumping back on that bandwagon at the moment.

When I started it, I wanted to lose 25lbs. I lost 30 within 2 months and it stayed off (I was 46 at the time). I actually had to add more food in because I kept losing but didn't want to because I was getting too thin. But.. I was younger than I am now and I don't know that it would be quite so efficient now.

I've been in a ketogenic state since Nov. 2016. No need to ease into it. Just cut your carbs. I've lost over 100 lbs.

A ketogenic diet is not a balanced diet if you are going to try this make sure to take a multivitamin.

Nutrients only exist in carbs?

Common misconception. Your primary source of fuel is meat (protein) and vegetables so you are getting plenty of nutrition. However, you will excrete a lot of minerals with a ketogenic diet, so taking a multi-vitamin along with a good amount of calcium, magnesium and potassium is advised.

As far as jumping into it or easing into it, I've done it both ways. I cut out the unhealthy carbs like flour and sugar first and then moved on to the other starches. It helped me mentally adjust to what I needed to do. YMMV. I've also done the "all at once" thing. You'll have an adjustment period of about 3 days while your body goes from converting carbs to fuel to burning fat instead. It can be challenging, but totally worth it once you get through the first few days.
