Great advice and info!!

I'll add a couple more...

-Set realistic expectations (not I want to lose 20 lbs this week!)
-Reward yourself. Do something for yourself when you hit a goal. maybe buy a something for yourself or go somewhere special - no junk food rewards!
-Chew sugar free gum when you get hungry in between meals & snacks. especially in the beginning when you are getting used to your new way of living.

Be well everyone!

Get out and do something that is aerobic - tennis, raquetball, full court basketball, run stairs, take your dog for a trail RUN (not trail walk).

Have a goal in mind - a picture of the body you want, or you want to run a 6 minute mile, do 50 pullups, etc. Something that will challenge you each time you workout.
Both of your posts are terrfic advice. I would add calisthenics to your post as well.

My question is Did any of you crave sweets, and how did you overcome that? I don't mean simply wanting something sweet, I mean crave it to the point that you think about eating something sweet all the time?! Do you stop the sweets permanently and just go through withdrawals (I know that sounds silly, but I'm serious, or allow yourself some every once in awhile? This is a real problem for me.

You should never say never... its unrealistic to think that you can give up sweets altogether. That just leads to binging when you do break down and give in to your craving. I try to just do everything in moderation. Today I was really craving ice cream so I had a cup of it. To offset that, I didn't use salad dressing and I didn't have a potato at dinner. If I really want something, I find its better to have a serving of it and alleviate the craving, otherwise I just keep eating other things trying to fulfill that desire. Usually that means more calories than the original craving.

Here's how I went from 201lbs-112lbs:

I stopped eating meat (became a vegetarian) within one month I lost 15 pounds

I "gave up" fried foods, desserts, and soda

I allowed myself to eat whatever I wanted once a week (this includes what I "gave up" lol

I tried drinking water alot but I hate the taste of it so I add lemons at restaurants and crystal light in my gallon jug. I drink a glass of water before very meal and I try to finish a gallon of water a day.

At restaurants I get a salad for an appetizer. That with my glass of water I am almost full by the time the main course comes.

I hate exercizing so I get my workout by going to the clubs and dancing or taking the stairs instead of the elevator. On commercial breaks I step up and down on my kitchen stool.

I keep fiberone bars in my purse so I can have a healthy snack between meals and fiber fills you up and keeps you regular.

I switched from white to wheat for bread and pasta

Like someone else said, its not a diet its a lifestyle change

i disagree about walking not doing much for you. walking keeps my legs looking fabulous. and a good brisk walk is gentler on your joints (knees, ankles, hips) and back than running or jogging.

with regard to sweets, i give in to my craving!! i just don't eat the whole bag at once! i buy the individually wrapped mini chocolate and carmel candy bars (my favorite) and eat one or two the first day and maybe one or two the next day and usually by then my craving is gone and the bag sits for a few days and i'll just eat one occasionally. i also realize how bad it would be for my body to eat a bunch of chocolate candy so i simply don't do it.
