It's true that speeds up your metabolism, but seriously - the only real safe, permanent way is simple. Eat less and/or exercise more. (Burn more calories than you take in.) Easier said than done, so why is it so hard when it's such a simple answer? Motivation. If I were you, I'd concentrate on that rather than focussing on tips.
Actually, quitting smoking and losing weight are a lot alike. We try to use tips like posting encouraging notes all over, sucking on carrot sticks, finding other ways to keep ourselves busy and distracted from our vices, even using medical assistance or herbal supplements. And most of the time it works for a while but fails in the long run.
Look within yourself. When the motivation is REALLY there (your motivation and not somebody else's) you will make the permanent changes necessary to become and stay a smaller person. It ain't gonna be easy, you just have to get sick and tired of being sick and tired of it.
being positive and happy with who you are and what you have.I believe that when you feel good, you want to look good, and that is motivating. It makes you able to turn down that extra cookie because it is not good for you in the end.
Several years ago I replaced soda with water & lost quite a bit of weight. I drink 1/2 of my body weight in ounces of water every day. For example, if you weigh 100 pounds drink 50 ounces of water.
I could not believe how much better I felt when I started drinking water (witch I did due to kidney stones). I slept better and had more energy.

That means I would be drinking 138 ounces of water each day. Over 17 glasses. I'd be a little worried about hyponatremia ... or maybe even drowning! Perhaps the ratio for me might be a little different that 1/2 my body weight?

Honestly, I worked my way up to it. I have heard of people having problems from drinking too much water, but it was mostly military personnel who were drinking large quantities in a relatively short time in order to pre-hydrate in advance of a long hike in hot weather.
Also, it was only the first couple of days that I was running to the restroom frequently. Once my body adjusted it was not a concern.

Thanks. I'm going to give it a try ... slowly. With 95 pounds to lose, every healthy trick in the book needs to be considered.
I have lost probably a good 15 pounds recently--without even trying. We moved from the city in CA to a rural area of NC. There are no fast food joints anywhere around us. In CA it was common for me to drive through one of the many fast food places there. The only reason I can think of for losing all this weight since I still eat just as much as I have always eaten is no fast foods!! I also had soda pop when I went to the fast food places and have now replaced soda pop for cranberry juice or water. That is the only thing I have done different and the pounds just fell off. I feel very healthy too!! I was not really over-weight to begin with but the weight I did lose seemed to be the extra "fat".
Lay off the soda and fruit drinks! Mainly drink water!
Liquid cals are baaaad!
Also, don't eat past 7.
And, go for walks. =D
