I haven't bothered to read this thread. Ones like this are usually a collection of peoples' fantasies and fortuitously derived, anecdotal tricks that may work for certain individuals.

Always go back to basic physiology & pathology:

As we found in the thread here about obesity & genetics-- different people handle food for energy production & storage of excess differently based on their genes.

When a meal is taken, a chain of events begins: we normally secrete a small squirt of insulin immediately (T2 diabetics don't do that well). Then fat in the food sets off a squirt of incretins from the intestines which in turn tell the hypothalamus to slow down the hunger sensation & speed up the satiety sensation. Carbs don't do that very well. That's why we joke about Chinese food and being hungry again.

As we digest and absorb the food, carbs cause an increase in insulin secretion. Insulin causes glucose to be sucked into cells more easily, but more importantly. it increases the rate at which fat is formed in fat cells (out of carbs) and also slows down the rate at which fat is broken down in fat cells.....Eating a diet higher in carbs makes us fat faster and skinny slower. If you take in more than ~40gm carbs per day (less in people who "gain wt easily") you can't burn fat. Any wt loss on a low cal diet that contains 40+gm carbs (ie- a low fat diet) will be mostly from muscle loss, not fat loss.

You can decrease your sense of hunger by tricking yourself with lousy tasting things-- essentially a Pavlov's Dogs thing in reverse, or you can make physiology work for you-- take a little fatty snack 15-30 minutes before a meal to ruin your appetite, as your mother would say....But keep in mind Seinfeld's observation--"Who cares if you ruin an appetite? ..Another one will come along soon."

I was told yesterday that they've got Rebel at my local Jewel.
Three flavors... Mint Chip (nope), Peanut Butter Fudge and Butter Pecan. 6 bucks a pint.

I'll pick up a pint of Butter Pecan and report my findings.

When eating low carb high fat with plenty of Veggies and fruits, skipping the grains and sugars, calories are not the problem. You can lose weight eating anything if you limit the calories, true. But it’s not sustainable. Low carb is sustainable for life.
A person can most certainly gain weight on a high fat diet. Butter, bacon, cream those things are consumed every day and a person will likely gain weight, or not be able to lose it.

And many people lose weight without a low carb diet.

Low carb diets may work for people who enjoy eating lots of meat and fats. But everyone I know on low carb diets is extremely overweight. Maybe that is just a coincidence, but I have several "atkins for life" dieters in my family and they're all overweight.

It's the context that matters most. Yes, you can certainly VERY easily gain weight eating bacon, butter and cream IF (and that's a big IF) you combine it with pancakes & syrup, biscuits, orange juice, jelly, hashbrowns, you get the picture. Eat the fatty foods without the high glycemic foods and you will get no insulin response. Those foods will be metabolized differently without the insulin in your bloodstream. If you are an active person, the fat would become fuel assuming, of course, you were doing low carb and fat adapted. If you were not an active person and assuming you were burning at least some calories, then this becomes CICO. Unless you lay in bed all day, you should burn some off.

Idea....Make food blah? No salt, no ketchup, chutney, soy sauce, tobasco, relish,
gravy, no mustard, whatever...just a chicken breast, broccoli, salad with a bit of vin and oil?
Then, fish...plain...etc...No sugar with your cereal, oatmeal...no butter on any toast
or bread...

Soon food would not be something you would think about as fun.
I might try this theory out....put all salt and pepper away even...no chips, even healthy
whole grain things.

Hmm...oh no cream in coffee, no stevia in tea, tuna-no mayo! See?...bland and blah.

I'll call it 'The Bland and Blah Diet'...I'll sue you if use that for a book.
If you can write more than 5 pages that is...cuz it's a Blah book.

Maybe it will be good as a sleep aid too if it's all that boring?

Ages ago, I had the idea of making baking soda pills to take with meals to associate the bad taste with food and subconsciously alter hunger. I figured it could be tested to see if taking it before, with or after the meal was more effective, if effective at all. ..I want a 10% cut if anyone tries this and sells it now.

BTW- I didn't notice if anyone had brought up "fat burner" products in this thread. They're just hi in caffeine and that sensitizes you to adrenalin, slightly decreasing appetite at the expense of raising BP, HR and causing tremors. Just drink coffee or tea. Same dif.

I think I eat about half of the stuff in Miss Hepburn's post.
I don't eat several things on her list because I don't like 'em.

TOO funny!! Ok I have baking soda in a plastic shaker in my bathroom to use as an occasional toothpaste (also turmeric...it whitens your teeth for a short while, red wine or coffee and it's gone, ha, plus has bacteria killing qualities!)
OK! So I'll brush my teeth whenever I feel hungry...I'll let you know!!!

Never took fat burners...that's terrible , just caffeine! Too soon to rep.
My old acupuncturist doesn't carry the Chinese herbs that were amazing, oh well.

Today is the day!!...1. brushing with baking soda, and 2. no flavoring in my food all weekend Fri -Sunday.
I'll let you know how I do.

Cuz I would kill to lose even 10 pounds...I mean except diet and exercise.

I typically take Bronkaid to lose weight but haven't had luck with it lately because it gives me paranoia.
