Moderator cut: off topicI find this forum very useful. I have never had a weight problem until I was diagnosed with an underactive thyroid five years ago. I immediately packed on 30 pounds and have kept it on... I've tried to get it off, but no luck. I've been told that it is more difficult and some diets don't work for those with thyroid disease.
My question is this: has anyone tried Nutrisystem who has a thyroid problem and how did it work?
Thanks!

i started nutri system 2 weeks ago and find the entress very good.they do give u every thing u need fr soups to desserts. I did find several items, however that were in my opinion very poor in taste. The Pizzas and the hotdogs were awful. So, i simply told the comany not to send them again. its a great way to kick off a diet and i want to stay on it for 3 months at least. I then intend to join Weight Watchers and loose more weight.
This diet is expensive because u still have to buy veggies and fruits.
as i said, its a way to focus on loosing weight.
id like to hear fr other members on their sucesses with Nutri System and advice for eating out in fast foods places.
I was on it. I did lose weight. Although most of the food was good, some of the bars and certain items were inedible, but they kept sending them anyway.
It's about portion control. They charge you 2-3 times what you could pay for the same food at your grocery store, but it does teach you how much (or how liitle) food you actually need in an idoit proof way. If you don't cut down your portions, after nutrisystem you'll just gain it back anyway.
I'd suggest you do Weight Watchers online...either points, or Core. You keep a food journal online, which keeps you focused on eating right, and you will quickly get a sense of what you need to do. This is not very expensive compared to a prepared food plan.

Hi,I was in the same boat as you are in. I must stress - get your thyroid checked and get on medication. An Endocrinologist did blood work and put me on "ARMOUR" thyroid meds and Hormones replacement. Years before, my regular doctor (ob) put me on an artificial thyroid med called "SYNTHROID" and I was on it for 3 years, nothing changed, so I went to the doc who specializes in thyroid problams in women. It took one year, I still did excercise and ate very healthy, but now have lost the weight, look, feel years younger and have my energy back. Dont consider a diet till you fix whats broke!
Thyroid problams in women is an epidemic now. Many theories of what causes it-stress---artifical sweetners---dental x-rays---pregnancy over 40 --I have read many different ones.
I did Nutri-System 15 years ago, lost 90+ pounds, and did 7 tv commercials for them. The food was great and the weekly weigh-ins with a support person were helpful. I have since gained the weight back and just recently tried it again. The food is not very good now, in my opinion. It was better 15 years ago. And you have support people on the phone but it is not the same as weighing in with someone every week. I have lost 19 pounds so far this time.Drink lots of water and make your salads BIG.
Thank you for your responses.
nannie, I did have a specialist do blood work 5 years ago, whichi is when I was diagnosed. I was initially on Armour for a couple of years, and it did nothing. Then she put me on synthroid and cytomel, which I'm on now, and I am feeling 100% better. However, between the thyroid and the hysterectamy two years ago, I'm just trying to lose the weight I've gained.
I did order the nutri system and have been trying it for about two weeks now. The food is pretty good, although I stay hungry between meals a good bit. However, I feel it's disciplining me on portion control. So, we'll see. Thanks.
I did NS last year for a couple of months. I got a months worth of meals from ebay and about a months supply of food from my brother who was on it. My brother went off of it because his personal trainer gave him a better program to use.
The food is horrible and probably some of the worst stuff you can put in your mouth but it taught me portion control. I was eating a lot of veggies. I found I could do better and have tastier food if I followed the program with my own food. The thing that works for me is to eat a salad per day. It's filling.
Something I don't like are the NS commercials with some of those obnoxious women. Look at me I'm a size 2, etc. That's a turnoff.
