Is there something about this thread that causes people to create account names ending in 2 digits, and then post only once or twice, and never return to city-data?

Fascinating really, since most of them don't provide links to websites (which would be a big tip-off that they're just shills for some ridiculous diet).

But what has definitely helped me are 'cold water' salmon oil capsules. They calm the intestines.
What I can't seem to overcome is the dry and itchy scalp. Any suggestions. I have tried hemp shampoo, dry skin lotion etc but the scaling and itch always comes back. help!
Try applying warm coconut oil to head on head and massage for few mins. Leave it overnight and take a shower next day. It helps. Repeat once or twice a week.

Try Ayurveda. Iam on it for a year and it has been working for me.

The pharmacy filled the prescriptions double what they should have been. I had nightmares, anxiety, insomnia, headaches, and just could not function. The doctor finally got the prescription straightened out with the pharmacist, but it was still hard to deal with the side effects. I discontinued taking all medications. I still feel horrible most of the time. Dry mouth; dry, itchy eyes; cramps and pain in my joints; and extreme fatigue. I am a nursing student and can hardly keep up. I am so exhausted all the time and now I am finding that I really can't remember as I used to. I am only 47 years old and feel like an old lady. Nursing school is very fast paced and it is taking all I can give to stay in it. No one understands what I am going through so I try not to complain. I tried the Biotene as my dentist recommended, but I hate the taste of it. I drink a lot of water but was just recently told by my dentist not to drink water in excess because it washes away the natural moisture in the mouth, causing the mouth to be even more dry. My motto is "keep it moving." I push past what I feel all the time. There are days that I literally have to stay in bed all day. I did talk with my physician about this and his advice is that on those days, that is what I should do. It is so hard to do it but I don't have a choice. I had to learn not to worry about the house or my family on those days; that it is more important that I get the rest that I need so that I can be more effective on my better days. I am sorry to read that others have the same issues, but on the same hand it feels good not to feel so alone in this.
I am on ayurveda for over a year now and it has helped. Reduced my joint pain, etc.

A word to the wise. Sjogrens can not be managed by a single MD, it takes a group of Specialists including a Rheumatologist, Retina Specialist, Specialty Dentist, Periodontist, and Internist. Dental disease is one of the worst symptoms and it is absolutely necessary to see the Dentist every 3 to 4 months to catch any problems early. In spite of rigorous dental care I have lost all but 5 teeth . Fortunately I can wear a bridge because my mouth is too dry to hold a denture in place. Dental disease can also lead to arthritis and Cardiac disease as the bacteria enter your bloodstream any time you have work done that bleeds, including cleaning. The arthritis can be managed by long term use of Plaquenil, and I do mean long term. A specialist in the retina must be seen to evaluate the possibility of Plaquenil toxicity of the eye and dry eye scarring. I had all my tear ducts surgically plugged, no fun at all! I use eye drops 4 to 6 times a day and Restasis didn't help me, although it does help some people. My new insurance won't pay the $1000's of dollars it costs. The drug company has a payment assist program. Sjjogrens patients stand a higher rate of some forms of cancer so an thorough Internist is a must. Getting plenty rest, mild exercise, proper dental and eye care, and a good diet will all help avoid the pitfalls of this under treated disease. If necessary Steroids can be used short term for flares and Methotrexate can be use for severe arthritis. Good luck and good health to all of you. wepley

AS for not drinking water - that's why a Dentist who knows about the disease is critical. You should be applying a high concentrate Fluoride paste to your teeth after you brush and use a RX Fluoride rinse. There are some types of gum, biotene makes some, that actually help reduce the bacteria levels in your mouth. Your Rheumatologist can also prescribe a medication called SALAGEN that will increase saliva production. There are also mouth lubricants sold by biotene and other companies. Google dry mouth lubricants and here are several. Biotene is not the only company producing moisturizing agents any more. As with Fibromyalgia, if you are having a flare, go to bed and rest. Take care of yourself and don't feel guilty! This is a REAL DISEASE with REAL SYMPTOMS. Treat yourself with kindness. Pushing yourself will only prolong the symptoms. There are other drugs besides Plaquenil, such as Elavil, Gabapentin, and some other seizure medications that can help. Talk to your MD about alternatives. Many of us with Sjogrens also have Reynauds Syndrome where your hands and feet are effected by changes in temperature causing the blood vessels to go into spasm and the areas to turn freezing cold, painful, and blue. Try to avoid the cold by wearing gloves in the winter and inside if you have to, and wear no-slip socks or slippers in the house. I hope some of my suggestions have helped at least one person. wepley

Dry hair and skin is a real problem in winter and sometimes even summer. I use a shampoo that is a combination of shampoo and conditioner, use warm or cool water, never hot, and blow dry on a cool setting. I never wash more than every other day in summer and every 2 days in winter. For the dry skin, try an ultra-luxurious body wash and don't scrub your skin, gently wash it and DO NOT USE HOT WATER!! Use warm only. Put on a good quality lotion while your skin is still moist. Also have you MD check your thyroid levels. Just on the outside chance your levels are low. Eating more natural oils in your diet may also help. Don't stay on a low fat diet unless there is a true medical reason. Your skin needs the oils. Hope this helps.

Default diet and sjogrens

I too have been diagnosed with sjogrens. I researched the paleo diet..and celiac disease..i have been gluten free and dairy free for 4 months now..i feel better than i have in years!..i still use preservative free eye drops and biotine everything! But, my body feels alot better. I eat vegetables..fruits and protein. As clean as possible. My energy level is so much better. After not having gluten for 2 months..i did try eating a small peice of bread. Immediately..i felt my throat itch and become dry. A good test! Now i trust my diet..i used to go through life telling my body what to do..now my body tells me what to do. Im listening.
