Default Ketogenic diet.

Has anyone been on the ketogenic diet? Either for medical or dieting purposes?

I have epilepsy and have been on it, modified, but I do not like the fact that you eat so much meat, so much fatty food.

Your fruit and vegetables are limited as well.

It reminds me maybe of Atkins.

Anyone?

Uh - atkins is essentially a modified version of it yes - any extremely low carb diet is.

there is a lot of conflicting data on the safety of high protein /fat diets. Most have not been able to prove that there is a major danger - as people who have lost weight on a high protein/fat diet end up having same type of health profile as those who lost weight on a low fat high whole grain/veg diet. The problem seems to be the extra weight. Not the food you eat.

That said if you are going to be on it long term ( to contain symptoms ) you will not have the main problem - regaining weight once you go back to eating carbs.

There's a lot of good info on the web on these types of diets, along with recipes that use flour alternatives!

good luck!

High protein does not automatically equal high fat. If most of your protein choices are chicken, fish and occasional legumes, your fat consumption can remain relatively low.
