Question Anyone researched doing gastric bypass/lapband in Mexico?

I have been researching it and can't find any negatives yet. For those of you who haven't researched it, I know what your first thought is...unsterile and unsafe conditions. Before you post such a thing, look into it and then help me.

Thus far, I haven't found anything negative. I see the price is unbeatable, the hospitals are top quality and better than the US, the Mexican doctors are now leading the world in the surgery with quality and training/educating other docs in the world, the customer service is awesome...

What I am looking for are websites/articles of the cons, horror stories, etc.

I see some do have complications like any other surgery where they take care of those issues back home under thier PCP/own hospital.

Let me know if you know of any true, real negatives to going abroad?

Legal liability if something goes wrong. You can't sue someone in a different country, international law will not protect you.

I am getting banded in the morning. My insurance ended up approving me for lapband a few weeks ago and tomorrow is the big day. I am so excited and scared. My anethesiologist called tonight to talk about tomorrow and to reassure me all would be ok. I have also been posting on another forum for bandsters. For any who are considering it, please read.

I have seen good and bad stories done here and there. That is a very serious deal to go through so I would just make sure you have your American doctor that is kept up to date on everything, ready for emergency care unless you are going to be living down in Mexico.

You can find people on youtube talking about their experiences too if you want.

Lap Band Surgery and Lap Band Discussion Forum

Hi Froggin4colorado,

Just wondering how you're doing since you've been banded? I am going to see a doctor here in Houston in a week about the procedure. My insurance has told me that with my current labwork and BMI, I will not be approved for 100%, but they can't tell me until ALL the paperwork is in. I have hypothyroidism, and they want my number in normal ranges before approval. We're working on that...anyway, just wanted to see how you are doing, how you like the band, and have you had your first fill?

Thanks!

Mom2Feebs
