Default Did you know pesticides make you fatter?

The Best New Ways to Boost Your Metabolism - Go organic - Health.com

"Go organic
If you’re on the fence about whether to buy organic, this news may sway you: Fruits, vegetables, and grains grown without pesticides keep your fat-burning system running at full-tilt because they don’t expose your thyroid to toxins, Hyman says. Nonorganic produce, on the other hand, “blocks your metabolism mainly by interfering with your thyroid, which is your body’s thermostat and determines how fast it runs,” he explains. "

I can think of a bunch of other stuff in my diet that's making me fat, I don't think pesticides is a major culprit. our bodies are exposed to so many day to day toxins, who's to say that it's just the pesticides in our food harming our health? I buy some produce organic when I can afford it (if the organic is about the same price as conventional), but don't really buy into all the hype. much prefer to buy local conventional produce than imported organics

Yes thyroid toxins are good for you when trying to lose weight....as long as they are local
LOL
what?

oh yeh..nope.

I notice a major difference in how easy and fast weight comes off going organic.
Try it for two - four weeks organic and then 2-4 nonorganic. You will see the difference.
I wish I could afford to eat that way all time.

That's my problem. I can't really afford organic and can't always get to the farmer's markets. When I lived in Russia, I noticed their fruit and vegetables were far superior to ours, even though they weren't as pretty. Well, I was buying organic and the difference in taste was remarkable. If my budget allowed, I'd buy nothing but organic.

But, more to the point, I completely believe the pesticides used could affect the thyroid. That said, I know they're not the major culprit in my 10 extra pounds - that is solely due to not enough exercise and the glass of wine sitting next to em.

I heard that toxins can add to fat but for another reason. What I heard was that when the body gets overloaded with toxins, the body's best defense is to encapsulate or store the toxins in fat, therefore, keeping the toxins from settling in organs. Sounds like it makes sense.

They had pesticides long before we had the obesity epidemic.

Before you doubt try it out!
I hate it when people just fart all over everything without even trying it. Have some fun for heavens sake and stop being so negative.

I hear you on the price of things. There are certain foods that use less toxic pesticides than others. I go by that list pretty much:

Environmental Working Group || foodnews.org

That way you can buy some at least. Or pick a better "normal" option.
I think even doing it that much makes a difference.
I also think its funny everyone will jump up and down a dole out dollars for diet pills and treatments but they wont spend a few bucks on what actually works. Quality food.
And yeh..organic food is pretty ugly sometimes. LOL
