meal replacement weight loss smoothies?
Hi-has anyone here tried losing weight with smoothies? I want to lose 12 lbs, and I love smoothies made with fruit, and soy milk, and protein powder. what I am wondering is, can you lose weight by replacing a meal with a low fat smoothie? I don't add anything extra-no sugar, honey, etc.
I only use frozen fruit, bananas and soy milk.
How much sugar/fat is in these? I have been bad about skipping breakfast, so I think a healthy morning smoothie would do the trick? can I lose weight doing this?
thanks!

Hard to say. Check out a chart of the cals and content of the components.
What you are describing is instead of skipping breakfast, adding more calories...which all else considered will likely cause weight GAIN.
So, I am suspecting you also intend to cut calories elsewhere but didn't metion that.
How much exercise do you get? Personally, I'm a huge fan of exercise because regardless of weight, you will look GOOD if you get a decent amount of exercise and then don't have to sweat a diet so much as eating healthy.
Show me a girl that likes a good cheesburger but gets plenty of exercise and one that just starves herself....all else equal I know which one will look "healthier".

I have to get more exercise. My walk tape came today so I am very anxious to get started with that. I meant for the smoothie to count as breakfast and/or to replace another meal. I don't think they will be too caloric because I am only using frozen, unsweetened fruit, plain soymilk, protein powder. nothing else.
I also had a joke back when Nicole Ritchie was so thin, that all she needed was to hang out with me for a few weeks and I'd have her looking great! burgers, beer, etc! Ha Ha!!
But it is catching up with me fast! Wish me luck!!

Just add up the cals of your smoothie your make.
Some suggestions to rev it up nutritional wise:
- use spirulina powder
- use powdered oatmeal or baby food's dry oatmeal
You can find recipe calorie calculators online to add it up a little more easily than scratch paper method.

If you use a lower glycemic fruit like berries, peaches, apples or cherries etc. it might help you to lose more weight and be healthier. Not all soy milks are created equal, some have more fat and are sweetened so read the labels and choose the best one (I personally use unsweetened plain almond milk in mine, and add a bit of stevia which doesn't spike insulin like artificial sweetners)

I know someone who lost weight drinking smoothies for his meals. The man looked vibrant, his skin was glowing. I consume smoothies for breakfast and they boost my energy levels. I particularly find that blueberrys and bannanas boost the energy levels a lot. I do know that to lose weight, you do not want to skip breakfast. Skipping breakfast will slow your metabolism down because the body starts going into starvation mode because you are hungry. I think a smoothie will benefit you. Also put in some olive oil for healthy fats, and you have your protein, healthy fats, and fiber. I put in a small amount of oatmeal for fiber in mine. Smoothies are easy to make and very nutritious. I would say go ahead and have your smoothies for breakfast.

I have started using smoothies for breakfast when I drive 45 min to work. Just fruit (banana, peach, barries), lowfat yougurt, whey protein powder, and orange juice. I think its helping, I lost 5 lbs last month w/o really exercizing. I just wonder if the whey or soy protein powder is better.

I do the protein smoothies or slimfast protein shakes for breakfast and
add in a Tablespoon of benefiber.
I just count the calories as I build them with protein/frozen fruit/milk/peanut butter /chocolate powder ect.
I keep mine at or under 300 calories and they keep me FULL til
lunch.
Big help to my diet.

Olive oil? I hadn't thought of that before. But I have used Flaxseed Oil myself because of the Omega-3 fat. It's supposed to be very good.
