Default Lower Carb diets.

What is your guys take on doing the lower carb thing.

I followed a strict Atkins diet and on phase one lost weight pretty quick and fairly easy.

I've started to eat more carbs lately though. I try to avoid all of the processed crap avoiding sugar and cut out alot of breads and pastas. I do do the Dreamfields pasta though.

I try to eat the good carbs like veggies and lower sugar fruits.

What do you guys think.

Lower carb is the way to go. I personally prefer South Beach and just went back on it strictly. I think you need to be pretty strict about it in order for it to work.

It is absolutely the way for me (and my wife) to lose and maintain weight. Once you adjust the way you eat it is an easy and effective lifestyle change. There is no other diet I would recommend.

I did the Atkins thing and lost a good amount of weight, but it is so unhealthy. I think the South Beach diet is the way to go for healthy low-carb. Now I kind of do my own thing, usually 5 smaller meals a day; lean protein (lots of fish), brown rice or wheat bread, cruciferous and leafy green veggies, saute in olive oil that I flavor myself, no fried foods, lots of water and a multivitamin.

Instead of low carbs, the focus should be on "good" carbs. I get all my carbs from fruits and vegetables as opposed to grains. I know we've all been told that whole grains are good for you, but I personally don't think so. Breads, rice and pasta don't give you anything you can't get from fruits and veggies. I also eat lean meat and fish. One area where Atkins really fails is letting people eat saturated fat. I get my fat from eggs, fish and nuts. And my skin and joints are all the better for it.

Low carb is awesome. I am not even overweight but the improvements in my health, energy and even skin are amazing. I don't eat any sugars except one serving of berries in the morning but I still can eat plenty of veggies (non starchy veggies). I cut out all desserts, potatoes, rice, pasta and bread all of which turn to sugar in the blood eventually. All this time fats have been blamed for our health problems when in reality it was carbs that are causing health and obesity problems to skyrocket.
