Been making, once a week, a week's supply of no added oil, low-salt granola. It's got sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, oat flakes, vanilla, flax meal and walnuts. Vanilla and cinnamon. It's pretty dense so it fills me up. High in fiber and other good things. Kind of hooked on it, actually. I top it with soy milk and add fresh fruit or raisins, sometimes. Chopped apple is good.
i have 2 cups of plain cheerios with 1 1/2 cups of soy milk, and 2 cups of oj. i can bear not eating till noon, tho i have water and 0 cal ice tea to keep me company
Are you looking for the healthiest breakfast you can eat?
Here it is:
- some old fashion oats, not instant
- handful of fresh blueberries
- a little fat free milk
- a little water
- cook 5min and add cinnamon and mix
- 4 egg whites (hard boiled of course)
- 1 cup of green tea
Try it!
What's your healthy breakfast?
That's a good start, but there's a lot of room for improvement. First, instead of a handful of blueberries, how bout a whole cup? This is perhaps one of the healthiest fruits you can eat, loaded with nutrients and antioxidants. Second, I would cut out milk. I know we've been conditioned to think dairy is good for us, but if you knew about all the hormones and antibiotics they pump into cows, you'd be afraid to eat any dairy. Third, egg whites are good but whole eggs are even better. If you eat free-range omega-3 eggs, you get the healthy fats your body needs. Don't pay attention to the people who say cholesterol in eggs is bad for you. There's no conclusive study that shows egg consumption raises body cholesterol. Personally, I don't like to eat oats and would rather eat more fruit. And in your eggs, you can mix some veggies to add even more nutrients to your meal.

I only buy organic milk, from local farmers who don't pump all that hormone and antibiotic stuff in it.
Yeah, I'll eat the yellows too sometimes. All the vitamins and minerals are in the yellows.

Organic milk is better, but dairy is still something that people shouldn't be eating. Seriously, why do we eat this? Milk is produced my mammals to nurse their young. So not only are we eating baby food, it's food that's not even meant for humans babies. Can you imagine any other animal out there drinking human breast milk? Who started this trend, giving humans milk meant for calves? LOL.
My ideal healthy breakfast would be cheerios with skim milk and honey, orange juice and toast with peanut butter (yes, the latest food to stay away from). Funny thing about slim fast, IMO, is that Walmart's version is better than the brand name. Now I generally stick to french vanillia, but all in all I pick Walmart. Plus it's cheaper.
I get the Costco brand (Kirkland) of slim fast and it's better than the brand name too. And LOTS cheaper.

I know you can get calcium from green leafy vegetables, too, but I don't trust myself to eat enough of them to get the calcium I need. How do you make sure you get enough calcium if you don't drink milk? Something that doesn't add a lot of calories?
I do organic yogurt and granola with a cup of green tea. Very tastey and filling. When I get up first thing in the morning I drink either a small glass of organic cranberry nectar or a glass of room temp water with lemon. Been doing this for a couple months now and it makes a huge difference. On Friday's I have my "made it thru the week splurge" and go to a local coffee house for breakfast. The sell all organic products and I get a skinny latte and muffin or scone.
I like to eat 2 small meals for breakfast. The first to help me get going and the second holds me until lunch.
With my coffee I have 1/2 cup Fiber One Cereal, 1/2 cup skim milk, and 1 cup of berries.
A few hours later I have one of these ( depending on how hungry I am and how heavy my dinner will be)
2 egg whites in 1/2 ww pita
or
2 egg whites and a sliced orange
