Default 960 calories a day

A couple of years ago I was diagnosed with Non Alcoholic Steato Hepatitis and ever since then my health has been declining. A couple of months ago, after it being under control, my disease reoccurred with my liver panels going through the roof again. After much prayer and discussing with my husband I decided to take control of my health, stop all meds, and get myself to lose weight. I am 5'4" and I was weighing in at 144 lbs. I need to weigh right around 122 so on August 18th I decided I was only going to consume 960 calories per day with no extra exercise, just what I do normally. I have lost 10 pounds since then. I no longer crave sugar, fats or fast food. I have one Yooho drink in the morning 100 cals, with an Activia Light yogurt (70 cals) then for lunch a nice lunch right around 390 cals (Healthy Choice, Lean Cuisine, Subway Roast Beef Sandwich no cheese) then for dinner usually a light dinner of some pieces of chicken and steamed broccoli. It has worked for me!! I am on my way to 122!! And I don't work out!! From experience, working out just made me hungry! So I figured, that for me, the best thing to do was lose the weight first, especially to control my blood sugar and liver problem, and when I do get to my goal weight I will start to do some pilates, yoga, and slight weight training and I will monitor the calories I need to maintain my weight. I will post my progress here.
I do have to say that this past weekend we went to Mexico and I did eat fajitas (only about 2 small strips, 2 tablespoons of beans and rice and lots of salsa) and I did not gain weight!!
It takes discipline but it's either this or risk losing my liver or dying
My friend says she will try this as well. Again, you have to go according to how tall you are and how much you want to lose. I think I read the 960 calorie diet on line...I think Janet Jackson did this back when she looked fab!!
I am 39 years old and I certainly want to be around for my children. I will do a lab workup next month to see how being off meds and on this diet has affected my liver.
Will post before and after pics soon.

Personally, I would faint on 960 calories a day. That is no where near enough food for me. Just because you are dropping pounds does not mean it is healthy. I hope you have discussed any diet changes with your doctor first! If you are doing things the healthy way, and it works for you, good luck and keep it up

I could easily subsist on 960 cal a day, and often do. Usually above that though. And I do exercise, a LOT.

I hope this works for you and will help your medical condition and you can be more healthy.

I eat 1,200 calories a day, but I eat 5 times small portions through the day. That seems to work the best for me. I do work out 4 times a week though, so I work off a lot. Exercising actually makes me less hungry and I don't crave sweets, fast foods etc. Drinking lots of water really helps with the weight loss also

We will be happy to see how the progress goes. Sounds like you are on the right track.

What is your hepatologist's opinion of this?

I wouldn't say this is a totally healthy way to go. If you exercise, even if you eat more it is healthier in the end. Actually, not changing your diet and just exercising is healthier than eating less than 1000 calories a day. You are probably damaging your metabolism and at some point you will not lose weight anymore. You might find yourself putting on weight even while eating less calories than before if your metabolism is taking a hit. Part of the weight you are losing is also muscle unless you are doing exercise to maintain it.
Your diet is totally backwards, a Yahoo for breakfast? Your biggest meal should be breakfast, your lightest meal should be dinner. How much work are you doing after dinner? You can eat anything and lose weight if you eat less than 1000 calories. I could be on the snickers bar diet and lose weight if I only eat two a day. That doesn't mean it's healthy. Look at Karen Carpenter, she was skinny and died at 32. You need to get a balanced diet and you need to add in some kind of exercise.

I find this difficult as in the mornings I am caffienated, which helps control my appeitite - so it is easier to not eat. In the evening, I avoid caffeine so I can get some sleep so I don't have the aid of caffeine to control appetite.

CTR36's food choices sound reasonable. She's definately not gonna be malnourished or anything. If she has the power to do it, I say Go For It! Good Luck!

You will not get the proper macronutrient or mineral levels needed on less than 1000 calories a day. It is even hard to do on 1200(recc. lowest amt of cals for females) I think you should up your calories before you have to deal with any more health problems.
