If you read what I had to say........it was that the equations are some approximation but you have to do what you have to do and not worry about them as they are only an approximation.
.... Actually, answering the thread was the first time I put my numbers through the formula because I was just doing what has been working, steadily, for 5 months at approx 1.5lbs per week and 41 lbs later. If I relied on the formulas I would be very disappointed.
I came up with my own approach after spending 3 months following the advice of a nutritionist and excercise MD [which I think is a BS degree because they really don't seem to know SQUAT] and losing 5 lbs as well. Once I buckled down and realized I had to take control and make it happen and that it was all on me.........that was when I started losing weight.
Again, I only hear & read overweight people going on about their BMR and various equations. (Well, competitive athletes too, but that's a different matter entirely.)
I read what you wrote; you are not an exception to my observation.
Onglet, not sure your "observations" are particularly helpful to someone struggling with loosing weight
.........some of us can excercise and not eat "garbage" and still have difficulty loosing weight and need to count calories and excercise harder because the pounds don't just magically fall off if we do those things.......

Well to be honest, if you came to the conclusion that the medical doctor and nutritionist you met with in person don't know what they are talking about, how can you possibly think a stranger on the internet can be helpful? I am not nearly as qualified as the professionals you've met.
Look, I have finally had success in loosing weight and have an approach I believe is working for me. I was just trying to help someone. Don't have time for your head games.
The medical doctor and the nutritionist stuck with the equations and the standard calculations ........ the ones that did not work ..... I just looked at what I ate and did and adjusted to achieve desired goals........logging calories so I knew what targets to set.

Sounds like you have everything figured out, in which case, congrats.
Had a follow-up appointment with my doctor this morning. My last appointment with her was on March 8:
Vitamin D - Now normal; 39 (range was 32-100...I have no idea what the measurement is). My level was 15 before, so 39 is a great improvement.
Blood Pressure - 100/64. It was in the range of 120-140 over 80-100 a couple months ago. Traditionally, I have had low blood pressure. But as my weight has gone up and I've been sendentary and my diet has been poor, my blood pressure had been creeping up a little too. Nothing in the truly dangerous range, but considering how low my "normal" pressure is, it was "high" for me and wasn't signifying anything good. So it's great to see it as 100/64.
Resting pulse - 72. When I was there a couple months ago, it was in the high 80s, and when I'd gone for my cardiac (treadmill) stress test, it had been in the high 90s while I was at rest.
And I've lost 16.5 pounds.
I'm still having issues related to my GERD -- although it's MUCH improved over 6-8 weeks ago -- and my doctor is sending me to a GI specialist for an endoscopy and a colonoscopy.
All in all, a good visit. I feel really happy with my progress and with the positive turn that my health has taken. It's not JUST about losing pounds/inches, although of course I want to lose those!! My health has already improved a lot, and at my age -- 39 in May -- that's the priority, moreso than fitting into a pair of size 4s again. (However, it would be disingenuous of me to deny that I LONG for the days when I can fit into a pair of 4s. Oh, hell...at this point, I'd be jubilant to be a size 10!)
I had always kept my weight down solely for vanity - and did not really TRULY pay attention to the health aspects and benefits of it until (around) early last year, perhaps, when I really started to feel my own mortality. I seem to become more health-nut as each month passes - I'm evolving into the very sort of person that I used to grit my teeth at!
To me dieting is not about depriving myself from the good stuff in life. Like not drinking my glass of wine and eating my cheese and crackers. But I gained a lot of weight because of lack of exercise and too much sweets. I used to work out a lot and also eat junk on the side. Never gained a pound. But as soon as I quit moving I gained weight fast.
Right now Im trying to loose 15 pounds by working out and eating healthy. I really want to loose 15 pounds in 5 weeks ( because that when I have vacation )but if I only loose 10 I'm fine with that.
Today marks the end of Week 12. Weight loss is 22.5 pounds.
Just started jogging on the treadmill in an effort to keep things moving in the right direction. I'm pretty out of shape, so I have do do a jog/walk/jog/walk sort of thing. (I call it JALK-ing.) I jog for 5, walk for 2. It's a good way to start the day, and then after that I clip on my pedometer and aim for my 14,000 steps for the day. (I'm only at 3763 right now. I foresee a looooong walk in my future this evening.)
Anyway, regarding the jalking, I can feel it in my body! Whew! My inner thighs feel like I've had a marathon session of sex.
Next step...push-ups. Ugh. Kill me now.
All the good benefits of my changed habits are still there. Except...I had added meat back into my diet in an effort to get more protein, and I think I feel slightly worse because of it. Slightly. Maybe it's all in my head. I'd like to cut it out again, but then I'd be shy of my protein requirements by about 20 grams. When I'm completely plant-based, I get about 45-50 grams of protein each day, but given my current weight, I need to be more in the range of 65-70....then that will decrease as my weight decreases.
I go next week for my endoscopy/colonoscopy. My GI doc thinks everything is probably fine, but it'll be nice to know for sure. Clean slate and all that.
