2. i have another neighbor who not only never picks up after her wheaten terrier but also takes great delight in mocking barnaby's (my 13-year old shih tzu) stroller everytime she sees us, although she's only seen the stroller a couple of times. i explained the first time we ever met her that we use the stroller b/c barnaby has a number of age-related health problems, and it's a tool in making sure he is able to continue to get exercise as he ages (i.e., he is able to walk as far as his legs will take him, then the stroller brings him home). still, the mocking, and it's not gentle teasing, believe me (unless gentle teasing usually leaves you wanting to punch someone in the face from afar...) why does she do these things?

stupidity is the only answer i have for you about any of this.

also, i might agree with your thoughts on: laziness, inefficiency, incompetence, and entitlement.
Those idiots do not deserve a dog. I can't believe another dog owner making fun of your little dog's stroller.

irongrl -- oh, hey thanks! don't want to take the thread off-topic, but you'd be surprised by the number of people who make nasty comments about the stroller... i guess people see it and assume that a stroller = spoiled, lazy dog and overindulgent owner.

but if i explain to you why we are using it, you should then act like you have some darn sense when you see it instead of doing things like screaming at your teenage to wash her hands because she has bent down to touch my what? dirty? infected? disgusting? dog or literally laughing and pointing when you see us...

man, this woman and her rude, non-poop-picking-up self...

the behaviors all just go together.

I feel your pain, guys. We live in a pet friendly apt. complex and even when we have "stations" with free bags, it's always full of poop everywhere, especially small poop.

This is not the only problem, but also people letting dogs off leash, a couple of residents that have been kicked out after their unsupervised dogs killed other neighbors' pets, etc. Management has tried with notes on the newsletter, talking with certain neighbors personally, and even with fines is someone is caught not picking up after their dogs, but nothing is enough. And some of you that have offered poop bags have been lucky. When hubby has done so he's been insulted.

DH and I were thinking of moving to another complex and started reading reviews online, talking to classmates and coworkers, etc, but we've found that's a problem everywhere, even for people owning houses that have to clean the dog next door's poop.

I understand that pets have become popular during the last years, but owners must understand that they are not toys so we need to be responsible and respect other people's spaces. I don't know why is this so hard to get for certain neighbors...

Yeah? Well, those people can do what I have done - go home, get a bag, come back, AND PICK UP YOUR POO. I am tired of these stupid excuses.

Funny story one of the animal control people told me...

They are really cracking down on the pooing and leash laws in our town. In fact, your poo bag (or container) has to be visible by the animal control folks while you are walking. Fines are being doled out left and right. So this one animal control cop saw this guy walking his dog. Then the dog takes a crap...the guy sees the animal control cop coming over to him, panics, and uses his hat to pick up the dog's poo.

The cop told me she was just going over to the guy to give him a bag!!!! Freakin' hilarious and this guy totally deserved it...you know he would have left the crap there if the cop hadn't come by.

this is one of the reasons i don't walk bailey and dave in my own subdivision.... there is a pond about 2 blocks down from my house and that area is always just COVERED in poop ..... bleah ..... i have at times used every single bag i had in my pockets picking up the poop and it is still not enough..... i have suggested installing bag stations at a couple of spots around each of the ponds.... there are already large trash cans .... and even offered to supply the first 500 bags..... but have been shot down out of fear of what the little juvenile delinquents would do with all those bags........

i was walking bailey one morning and she stopped to sniff the grass at a neighbor's house about 2 doors down from me.... the woman came running out of her house yelling at me to NOT let bailey on her grass.... seems that they were having a problem with other dogs pooping in their yard.... i calmly and politely pulled a couple of bags out of my pocket and explained to her that it was NOT us.... that i rarely even walked my dogs in the neighborhood and when i did, i ALWAYS picked up after them ..... took her a minute, but she finally calmed down.......

You are absolutely right! I will admit there has been a time or two when I forgot a poop bag, but as soon as we returned home...I would hot foot it or jump in my car to hurry back and pick the poop up.

Laziness is truly a factor for those who do not comply! That's why people don't think twice about throwing trash out of their moving car, don't pick up an empty bottle that has been laying in their front yard for weeks, don't return a shopping cart to it proper place, or don't mow/ edge their lawns to help keep a neighborhood looking nice. Same thing drives me crazy when out in public or on the road at hotels/rest stops...people's inability to pick up after their dogs ruins it for those of us who like to travel with their dogs.

While I agree with cracking down on those who don't pick up, the "visibility" of the poo bag is over the top, IMO. I hope they would only come over and ask, rather than giving a fine to those who keep their bags in a pocket or backpack. I know, with my puppy, that bags (or anything else hanging from his leash) would not last very long. LOL

They haven't fined yet for the visibility factor, but definitely for the pooping and not scooping. I think they're trying ot be fair...even that one cop was going to give the man a bag.

But all these extremes just highlight how bad it's gotten - it's really quite ridiculous that people can't pick up their poo.

ha! i have a cat who doesn't cover his poop but one of the other cats always goes in after him and does it for him. policing the litterbox is one of her favorite activities!

i think i've seen one person actually defend not picking up after their dog on this forum, but the vast majority on here pick up their dang poo! if you're on this forum, it's a good bet you're a much more responsible dog owner than many.

people not picking up their poo is a huge problem in my neighborhood. it almost makes me embarrassed to walk my dog around here. i feel like i need to pick up other dogs' poo just so my dog won't be blamed, never mind so my neighborhood isn't as gross and stinky. and i often do!

i've actually had someone yell at me because i walked past some other dog's poo and they saw it and thought it came from my dog. i've also had people yell at me because they saw her squatting to pee and thought she was pooping. oh well, if they're also catching the people who actually don't pick up after their dogs i guess it's worth it! i'd probably yell (or at least say something) if i saw it happening too.
