I typed out a long response about how I feel about the direction this thread has taken, but will just sum it up by agreeing with cityflair on this.

I'm sorry for what you are going through, J-city.

OP - at the end of the day the ONLY thing you need to be able to do is look in the mirror and not be haunted. What I or anyone else on this board says truly does not matter - you are the person who has to live with the consequences of your actions.

You are the only person who needs to be at peace with what you decide - and it is my sincerest wish that you find it. You deserve to find it.

After hearing every rescue I talked to recommend it, we decided it would be best to put Charlie down. We were waiting until we felt ready and we've determined that we won't ever be ready...I made an appointment for Friday. The vet said she'll prescribe a sedative so he'll be calm when he comes in. We're waiting until friday so we'll have a full day to take him hiking and feed him steak and have the perfect day with him.

I'm so sorry for your pain.

This must be a horrible time for you and I hope that you will cherish your good memories of Charlie to see you through.

Many, many, many hugs.

In my belief system, he will be running the great fields of the sky, happy and healthy with lots of new friends. Many of them will be my long-gone fur-babies. <<hugs>>

I have heard that the Dog Whisperer, Cesar Milan, has been successful in that regard so perhaps there is a person of that caliber in your vicinity ?
