The other week I saw a severely matted little dog walking dejectedly in my neighborhood. I pulled over fully expecting her to bolt but I had to at least try to catch her. To my total surprise, when I started talking sweetly she just curled up in a fetal position and wiggled her tail submissively. Picked her up, put her in car and the whole "rescue" took about 30 seconds.

In addition to being very matted, she was infested with fleas and had a tick that was nearly the size of peanut sucking on her neck. Hideous! My friend, the tireless Eldad from Hope For Paws (I post his videos all the time) offered to come over and shave her. That took over 2 hours.

I did post a Lost ad but wasn't surprised that no one claimed her. After all, she had no collar, no microchip and was a physical mess. It also appears that she was never walked on a leash or potty-trained. Her owner (if she has one) does not deserve this dog. I then fully expected to rehome her but we fell for her and decided to become a 2-dog family. Funny thing is that I have always considered myself a "big dog person" and thought of little ones as yappy and too hyper for me/us. She's neither of those---just super sweet and mellow; so eager to please.

So, a QUESTION for your little dog experts: What do you think she is? She's 8 lbs. and on the thin side right now so could probably stand to gain another 3-4 lbs. Maltese? Poodle? Terrier?

Her name is Gigi which, depending on whom you ask, stands for "General Grievous" (a Star Wars/Clone Wars character that my 6 yo son likes) or "Good Girl"

Here are some photos---in one you can see her matted look.

Cute. VERY Cute. Probably some terrier, maybe some Maltese. I hope it's the love in her heart that matters most. Enjoy, regardless of chemistry.

I noticed that too but, in that picture, I couldn't help think how cute that little girl is, with her hand at her forehead, as if thinking, "How did we get so lucky to have TWO cute little girls in this house -- you and me?"

They're both beyond adorable.

She's absolutely adorable (and so is the little girl) - would think prob. a bit of poodle or maltese, maybe w/ a tad shih-tzu thrown in - thx for taking her in - btw, Phoebe is adorable too!
