Artie's poop has been soft recently. There's been no change in diet (kibble, treats, etc...). There's been nothing odd going on.

Maybe he drinks a bit more than a "normal" dog but that's likely because he runs a lot and gets parched. I know that the vet said that more water intake can lead to softer stool.

That aside, I started thinking about probiotics. I should have asked you guys *before* I ordered these, but I was anxious to get my order in so that Artie could get started on these. So now my question is: Has anyone ever used these? Any luck with them in terms of firmer stools?

PS. I went with the chewables (not the powder) because I thought the chewables would be more fun (like a treat) for Artie.

A spoonful of yogurt is just as good! Even with lactose intolerant dogs. Lactose in yogurt is partially broken down so the effect is not like straight milk.

I'll add another vote for yogurt vs probiotics. It may be a bit slower acting but in my experience it's equally effective in the long run.

As an added benefit yogurt is a lot less expensive and my dogs love it.

Thanks, guys. I've added yogurt to my shopping list. I'm guessing that the Chobani pineapple one that I eat is not going to be what Artie needs, so "plain ol' yogurt" is now on the to-get list.

Yogurt purchased. Yogurt licked off of spoon by Artie. A bit more yogurt to be had at dinnertime. Let the yogurt do its magic.

Is Artie stressed by chance? He has a pretty sweet life but could he have been stressed by something new?
I dogsat my parents dog Chico this weekend and I noticed soft poop with him (he did it on my living room rug! but never fear I got it out quickly with some carpet spray! whew!) but then the next morning he was ok.

When I first got Dazzle he had problems where his poop started out firm then ended in a big mushey mess so I gave him ( if I recall correctly you know us over 50 folks!) Probiotics with digestive enzymes in the mix it was a powder. After a few months of them he was fine so I stopped using them. Had been giving them to Dash during his cancer battle too. Dazzle does not like yogurt. The others all do or did in Dash's case but Dazzle won't touch the stuff! To each his own!
