Comfortis
Hi all,
New to the forum. Have a 6 month old Chihuahua and have given her Comfortis. This is the first month to use it. My problem with it is that before the fleas die, they jump off of her and into the house. Is this common? If so, can I use a topical along with the oral meds?
I hate to use so much medicine but the fleas are killing me!!!!
Thanks for the info,
Blackmama

We switched from Comfortis because to us, it wasn't as effective. It is best not to use a topical with the pill as it is overkill and could harm your dog. You can use Frontline Spray (usually have to order it online at Dr. Foster & Smith or another online supply) which is safe for kittens and puppies. It is our secret weapon for our young fosters or animals that have major infestations. We just use Frontline Plus and have never had a problem. Many people have complained that it wasn't as effective but we haven't had a problem at all and there is no concern with an infestation taking place in our house by those fleas that jump off.

Technically topicals are safe to use with comfortis, but usually you would use a topical to protect against ticks (since comfortis only protects against fleas). I wouldn't use 2 medicines to protect against just fleas. The best thing to do is treat your house. When I worked at a vet's office they always suggested that if fleas jump on you when your pets aren't around, you have an infestation and need to call an exterminator. And have them treat your house and your yard. The fleas aren't going to go away until you treat everywhere. And remember to give the comfortis every month and don't skip months until the fleas are gone from the house.
