Is there an outdoor dog bed that is close to indestructible? I have a German Shepherd that likes to chew up zippers (or the flap covering them). He tries to take apart beds if he gets bored, except for one indoor bed in particular that he really loves. I need one for the outside that will repel water and is not easily chewed up. He has a "Dogloo" dog house, but I may shove any bed in there as long as it is durable.

He is extremely obedient when I am around, but if I'm gone for a few hours, the gloves are off. He has clawed his way into a wall, eaten clothes hampers, destroyed shoes, and he recently chewed up an expensive duvet pillow cover. He is over a year old now. He wasn't much of a problem over the past year because my wife and I have opposite schedules, and one of us is almost always home. Now that he destoyed the pillow cover, the wife says he has to stay outside. I will comply before I end up outside.

This is the most appealing bed at the moment, but I'm taking suggestions. This one is made of nylon and the seams look good. I tried throwing an old blanket in there, but it always ends up in the yard full of holes.

This is the bed I got for my GSD. The good thing about them is you can clean them easily just by hosing them off. They work great outside or in. It was also the only bed he didn't destroy.

This one cannot be destroyed by my pittie (a strong chewer). My 100 lb GSD mix scratches on it every time she lies down, trying to rumple it up like a blanket. It's close to 2 yrs old with no damage!

Well, the only thing that worked for Sam was a heated plastic pad, hard but it was warm, I put it in his dog house. Any other bed, was just stuff for me to pick up around the yard. He grew out of that though, he mainly chewed up beds until he was four, then he stopped doing it.

I carpeted the interior of his dog house, and put in the heated pad, so if he was outside he would be okay. Once, my husband (ex!) left Sam outside all night long, in Montana, and it was 20-...and Sam was fine. And when I left my ex, I took Sam with me!

Horse Stall mats for a really bad chewer - they are big and need to be cut up but they provide the requisite cushioning.

I found a decent bed at Walmart for $25 that is one of the few my dogs have not chewed up yet. The cover is made of that cloth shopping bag material (prollly made in china and full of lead)

Kurunda is the best I found so far. Though they are not indestructible, the ones with pvc legs you can guess. My dog chewed the legs and also damaged the frame too.

Most dogs damage furniture in our house. So, buying a good dog blanket is very important.

I'm so surprised that nobody jumped on the fact that this indoor dog is being suddenly banished to being an outdoor dog.

Why not give him some exercise - GSD's are bred for herding - 'a tired dog is a good dog' - he's a lot less likely to be destructive after a good walk or jog now that the weather is nice - would couple that w/ confining him to a pet-proof room such as the kitchen where you can keep a close eye on him - I bet his behavior would improve and you could let him back in the house full-time and still get him a bed - they like to be w/ their family. He's young and prob. getting him some durable chew toys would help, just redirect him if he starts in on something inappropriate - Bitter Apple or Yuck on things that might tempt him should also help deter him.
