I would live in my car rather than get rid of Nanners. But being a Brooklynite, you probably don't have a car.

While I'm probably the only one who won't chastise you as I'm in a similar situation and will loose my home soon and do own an ancient JRT. I'd call all of the animal rescue groups including those who help with food. You might get lucky and find someone willing to take your pooch in. Try suggesting or advertising that you'd be willing to help with food, vet and visits. I wish you the best of luck.

I do get tired of the "I would never" group on here in their homes with jobs. Until you are facing poverty and homelessness you don't know what you would do and the horrific choices you might have to make. This economy has made people like me who are responsible dog owners face horrible decisions regarding our beloved pets. The OP was asking for help and all of you start chastising him, instead of offering suggestions and help without the BS.

I am not going to go into details as it is not anyones business. I have faced some pretty devastating situations in just this past year and I still would not get rid of my dogs. I made some pretty horrific choices just this past year and I still would will not leave my pets behind. I told the op what I would do that is just me. I sincerly hope the op can find a place to live that would allow the dog. I was not Chastising just saying what I would do.

Although they're on opposing ends of the argument, I think that you BOTH make valid points.

Thanks DandJ I was so rattled I repeated myself in my post. I understand the situation completely from all sides. I try not to pass judgement or chastise I have been on both sides of the coin and if I angered or upset anyone with my post I am sorry that was not my intention. I realize the op is facing some really hard decisions and I sympathize.

I still go back to comparing my pets to children. No matter what financial difficulties you face, you wouldn't give away or euthanize your children, would you? I (and apparently most of us here) value my pets just as highly as children.

People who don't probably should never adopt pets in the first place. I believe when you adopt, you are making a firm commitment to that animal for its entire life. Period.

That is what I believe too. Sure, there are parents out there in similar situations that can barely feed their children but how many do you see dumping them into foster care? It should be no different for any animal. But, for some reason they are exempt from being that important. We all go through hard times at some point or another but some of us choose to give up something that should be extremely valuable and choose to devalue those things to make ourselves feel better. I would never move anywhere that didn't allow animals because frankly I would never be forced to.

Some years back I was broke, living in an RV, and had a choice to make: Two weeks to go before I would see any money, and what to do? Feed my Doberman Lulu, or feed me? I spent the money on her, and I lived on toast for the next two weeks.

Please someone help me: email me directly at e.ortega@msn.com

Thank You very much
Soooo everyone...this person is asking for our help...what are your suggestions NOT what YOU would or wouldn't do.

Again, mine would be to contact all dog rescues, dog food groups, and see if they can help find a foster home for the dog, the OP is willing to help take care of him both financially and physically so lets try to help the OP instead of badgering him.

I DID offer advice. Find a new apartment that accepts dogs, break your current lease, and move. But you ask for advice, you invite my opinion too. With my advice comes my opinion (stated above).
