Cavalier King Charles are great lap dogs!
I agree with Lisa. We got two Cavaliers about 4 years ago. They are the sweetest, most lovable dogs. We lost our very small (12 lb) girl this past Spring to leukemia (not a common disease among the breed) and I miss her terribly. She used to sit in my lap or flop down next to me on the couch and let me roll her over any way I wanted to get comfortable. Both dogs allowed our cat to clean their faces or ears!
I would love another female 'runt' Cavalier. If anyone knows how to locate very small Cavs, please let me know.

I used to have this really BIG white cat named Basil...he thought he was the leader of the house...he would patrol his territory and then return to me. Well when I adopted Cinders who was a Cav but a runt...he fell instantly in love with her...he would lay down with her and suck on the fur at her neck and she would just lay there and let him...in spite of the fact that this HUGE white Baby was almost twice her size. Cinders came from a long line of good mothering show dogs and while she never had any puppies she had that mothering gene and Basil loved her dearly. I taught both Cinders and Chelsea to lick the cats in the face...on command...the cats loved it...they would allow both the dogs to lick them as long as they wanted...they were a fun group.
I have never known a Cav to have an agressive bone in their body, they are not as hard to groom as some of the Spaniel breeds either. They are also alot more common now that they have been accepted into the AKC. They have the prettiest faces I have ever seen on a dog.

Well it depends on how much of an animal lover you are. Dogs can sense whose lap they want to lay on. Any dog can be a lap dog with the right owner who shows tons of love and affection. All my dogs are lap dogs, especially my big ones! If you say you want a dog just to lay on your lap it will never happen. Dogs feed off your personality and they can tell when and whose lap to go on. I have had strangers come in my home who luvvvvv dogs, my dogs sense that and are all over them. I have had some people come into the house that pay no attention to my dogs and my dogs in return do the same thing. They sense when someone is not really an animal lover! So.... big or small it is up to you!

I could not agree more! I know someone who has one but the person is very old and her dog is not. I told her that if someday she cannot care for Willow (her Cav) anymore I will take her. Willow is sooooo sweet. Such a nice personality they have! Lisa, we are pretty close neighbors here in Florida, I am next to Orange City!

My beagle mix looooves to cuddle! He weighs 35 pounds and likes to either curl up next to me on the couch, or have a body part (an ear, a paw) draped over my lap. We spent a few hours like that watching the Olympics last night.

Boxers are the best lap dog!
I have known 9 different boxers - every one of them were lap dogs. Ranging from 55 to 108 lbs.

I have had a Shih Tzu which was an excellent lap dog - doesn't shed.
We currently have a Bichon Frise - 19 lbs. Doesn't shed and is an excellent lap dog.
I adore Italian Greyhounds but they shed.
