In Chesapeake Bay Retrievers, we call it grinning or smiling. Lots of Chessies grin but it can be disconcerting if you don't know what you are looking at. Dogs do it when they are excited or (as in the case of Denver) uncomfortable. It is NOT aggression! Personally, I find it cute!

Macie actually started doing that in the past year or so....when people come in the front door and she's trying hard not to jump up and give them the full on happy dog welcome. She'll sit and thump her tail and you can just see the effort it takes her not to jump up...and her lips then go back...and produce the same kind of "smile" ....
