Has anyone read this link yet? It made the front headlines of MSNBC while I was at work today. I was devasated and heartbroken when I first began reading about all of the animal abuse & farming/slaughtering for holistic remedies and delicacies that South Korea, China, and some few others still make a living with. And I was moved to tears when I saw this page on the news - the comments I've been reading argue both sides - but nonetheless, animal rights activists are beginning to slowly but steadily making a bold stand for what they believe in.
I give money to the budding Korean animal humane movement. There are terrible stories of dogs being bred for the "meat markets" and how they are kept and killed is horrifying. It is NOT a "cultural thing," but a small part of a corner of the culture, and could easily be ended. As much as I wouldn't want to eat dog, I am not a vegetarian, and it's the cruelty of the animals' keeping and ends that I object to most, including the dogs.
Well, I love dogs. But I am not vegetarian, and I wonder if this would be an issue if it was pigs, chickens, or cows, as those are common food animals in the US. We don't eat dog here, but in other countries dog is a culturally accepted food source.
I hope they find another food source other than man's best friend. Makes me sick to look at the markets with those beautiful dogs in crates. Why dont they breed rabbits? I think because of the loyalty and intellegence of dogs, there should be a world wide ban on eating them.
If the dogs were treated in a much more humane manner, I could be accepting of their food source being a dog or cat. Some of the dogs are stolen and that's awful to the owner who is worried what happened to his or her pup!
