I cant find what thread i was talking about this on. Anyway I spoke to the council last nite about the breed ban on 'Pit Bull Type' dogs and well, they agreed a breed ban wont work! Myself, the chief, animal control and a trustee will help write some new laws! Hope all goes well from here on out.
I wasn't part of the previous thread you mentioned but I agree a breed ban is stupid. There are great Pit bulls out there, it's the owners that need to be banned.

I know that these types of posts always come down to the 'owners' but I disagree with that. We have two Rottweilers next door, house dogs, nice family, babies pets but OH BOY don't go near those dogs. I have personally witnessed them attack, TOTALLY unprovoked, other dogs in the neighborhood. A couple was walking their small dog on the opposite side of the street 1/2 block away from the home of these rott's and they got out of their yard and made a beeline for this poor dog. Sorry, it isn't the owners (yes there are some good owners and some REALLY bad owners) it's the dog.

Again it's the owners. From the way you're telling this is that the dogs have gotten out more than once. If that's the case the owners need to learn a different method, one that works, of confining their dogs.

Sounds like the owners need to find a better way to contain their dogs. These two dogs have not learned their boundaries and that is the owners' responsibility to do something about the situation before these dogs get out again and do more damage. We are on very good terms with our neighbours now, but several years ago they had two Great Danes (very good with their family and cattle), but the dogs came into our pasture and killed several young calves. It was devastating for everyone involved. They have had a Great Pyrenees for about three years now and that works out well for everyone---we have a Great Pyr too. The Danes were placed in a home where they would be more closely monitored, and away from any farmsites.
As far as I know, they are doing fine--the animal control officer wanted us to authorize their euthanization which the owner was prepared to do for insurance purposes. I am still glad they are here and good pets for someone, they were just caught in a bad situation.
Agressive dogs are fine with me once they are contained. But youve got to remember, agressive dogs only become agressive for a few reasons 1) Lack of socialisiation with other dogs / other people 2) Its totally neglected 3) they are trained that way.

The dogs may bark and act aggressive if they are caged- and as BrianH mentioned, not socialized. My older dog, Sunny can look scary. But he would never hurt a person (unless they broke into my house-then watch out )

I agree with golfgal
I personally have been attacked four times and have scars to prove it. Twice as a child and the other two as an adult. Two occured as an invited guest inside someones home.
The owner didn't bite me and cause an infection and scarring THE DOG DID!
