We recently adopted a 2 year old Akita mix. She's been fostered in a kennel more than half her life, but is adapting wonderfully to being a family pet.

Akita's as a breed do not bark much. Several websites I've seen state 'if your Akita barks, PAY ATTENTION!'.

So far, she's only barked twice. Both times at the guy from my next door neighbor's lawn service. We've had neighbors come visit, delivery people, cops (long story), and she's been good as gold for all of them. We've gone on long neighborhood walks, with no problems. We've been to off leash parks, and she's been perfectly behaved.

But the lawn service pulls up, and she goes nuts! And just at the one man, not at any of the others.

So.... do I have an ex murderer mowing my neighbor's lawn? Any idea what could be spurring this reaction?

Could be this guy is giving an air or odor off she does not like and she is telling you to watch him . I had a golden retriver that was like that . If she did not like someone she let me know and them too she would get one of these deep down growls and that was the back off growl and then if they got too close she would lunge and bite . I had to watch her closely and Im assuming you will have to watch this girl closely as well . Also this guy could look like someone who could have abused her in the past and she remembers that as well .
