Back in the 1980s I went to Livestock auctions. I Seen Puppies & Dogs Auctioned off! They finally stopped doing it when it was discovered Puppy Mills were getting those animals & crating them Just to produce more puppies ... Dogs were going to people that Beat them & 1/2 starved them! So the Auctioneers Stopped allowing it! I Shocked that a Rescue would think about doing this muchless go thru with it! And What with all the Fuss Rescues made when that lady TV host gave a Rescue to a Child!!
This is a Case Where the Rescue is More interested in Money that the Animals welfare! Stinks Worse than a Puppy Mill!!

I didn't read the article, just the comments made. So I know I'm assuming a lot and shouldn't. But my initial thought is the same as yours. What rescue would auction off one of their dogs to the highest bidder with no background or vet check? My rescue needed money too, but I'd never have auctioned off anything alive to the highest bidder. Kind of feels like selling your soul. Granted, it could wind up being a great placement. But what if it's not?? I mean, isn't the whole point of rescue to put dogs into wonderful forever homes? If it was all about the money...............wouldn't that really make you more of a back yard breeder / rescue?
if i know this charity like i think i do (i have a friend that work for them) they wouldnt have accepted a rescues donation of a live animal unless there were specific rules in place prior reguarding home checks and such.
Foxy I Totaly Dissagree! People going to the Function would feel Oblugated to Bid EVEN IF they Didnt even want the Dog! So NO its Not right! IF these people wanted a dog they would come to the rescue & pick a dog & go thru the process like any one else! Or they could just Donate if they didnt want a dog! But a Fancy Auction would be Forcing people who dont care for dogs to Bid & take it home Just to Impress others! This is WRONG on ALL levels!
it wasnt an auction with only one "prize" noone was forced to bid on the pupy as there were thousands of other "donations" of various kinds to bid on...
i dont agree with animal auctions of any kind quite honestly, dogs, cats, livestock ect...
but i was adressing mrs comment about them adopting to any tom dick or harry off the street, which knowing this charitly is not typically their style...
i also dont see why a big deal should be made that a rocker and his wife who are well known for their love of animals and have all rescued pets...spent $10,000 on a dog from a rescue organization...
i understand that your problem is with the auction of a live animal not wiht who bought the dog as such...
however the origional topic was about ozzy spending $10,000 on a puppy...
which people came onto the thread expecting to bash about teacup dogs and horrible breeders and people wiht more money than sense only to be PLEASENTLY suprised that this man did not spend $10,000 on a puppy with a fancy name from some unscrupulous breeder, but instead essentially donated $10,000 to a worthy cause and potentially saved a rescued puppy in the process.
story about ozzy and sharon doing a good thing = good.
animal auctions are bad, but that wasnt realy the topic of the post.
