I woke up this morning to diarrhea, I put the dog out and cleaned it up. I let him back in and he laid down at my feet. I felt him kind of tremble so I reached down to pet him and that was when I saw that he had hives all over his body. He is a white and fawn pit so his hives are easy to see. 1 of the hives is so large that it covers the whole side of his face, from his to his nose and down to his upper lip. All over his body, this welts stand out almost like cysts.
I tried soothing him with a cold wet towel but that didn't work. He keeps running outside to potty. When he's laying down he has, what I would consider, muscle tremors. He is hiding under the bed a lot too. Does anybody have any idea what this may be? We had a neighbor that threatened to kill him and hang him from our porch railing...I'm wondering if it is poison...We have 2 other dogs though that are acting completely normal and have no hives or anything else...
Is it criminal threatening to threaten to kill a dog! If not it should be.....I would be reporting that to the police in any case so they have it on record.
Yah...right after I posted this, I called the vet and took him in. He had an allergic reaction to a spider bite or a bee sting, the vet said, and he gave him a cortisone shot. He's already doing better.
Reporting it to the police is pointless. The police and the media just eat up reports of so-called "vicious" pit-bulls. The police around here can't wait for the opportunity to shoot one. Our dog is not vicious. My 4 yr old crawls all over him and he just lays there. This man that says that our dog came after him aggressively and reported him to Animal Control, failed to tell them that our dog was just standing there and he threw his arms up in the air, lunged forward at him and yelled at him; that is when the dog barked at him. He never went after the man. The man is intentionally provoking this reaction from our dog so that he can legally justify killing him.
He has already told me in the past that he believes the whole breed should be annihilated. That day that he threatened to kill him and hang him from our porch, I told him to make a threat like that again and see what happens. He told me that he's beaten it in court before and he'll do it again.
I do realize that it is our responsibility to keep him contained but my 77 yr old mom forgot and left the gate open. So, if a dog gets loose and runs out into the street in front of a car and gets hit, that's on the owner. If a dog gets loose and someone is driving along and sees him at the edge of the road and intentionally swerves to hit the dog and kill him, that's on the driver of the vehicle (provided you have witnesses). The latter is no different than what this man is doing. It would be like the driver getting out and putting the dog in the middle of the street to make it look like it wasn't his fault but that it was the fault of the owner...
OK...WOW...that was wordy...LOL!
Hi, ya'll I'm Naomi and I tend to be wordy Thank you for the responses
Glad he's feeling better! Next time you're at the vet's you might want to ask about being able to give him a dose of children's benadryl if he gets into a tangle with a bug again. We had a cat who never learned about bees and the vet recommended children's benadryl for her.
Sorry you have such a jerk for a neighbor, people like that make me ill.
