I read post about the sneezing thing and looked at the videos, but my dog is not sneezing. Shes taking several puffs of air causing her cheeks to poof and than she huffs. She did have some clear drool hanging from her mouth this evening, we just treated for the second time with worming pills, shes a basset hound, almost a year. She is still eating, but not as playful. In her sleep she is doing this clearing her throat kind of thing and her stomach is laboring as if shes exhausted. I heard her making this sound this morning like she was about to vomit or was trying to clear her throat, my daughter says she noticed it over the weekend. Can anyone help?

bassets and, more often, beagles do a "reverse sneeze." It's harmless.

I agree with the "reverse sneeze" idea. My old cocker had one his entire life. Annoying, especially when they start in at night when you are trying to sleep. Closer to the end of his life it would also stimulate his gag reflex and he would puke up bile. Sorry if your dog has this. You may want to ask your vet if putting her on an antihistamine such as Benadryl which may help. Good luck.

It does sound like reverse sneezing. It can be scary sounding but is harmless. Sometimes it helps to just stroke the dog's throat.

My bichon does that all the time and the vet said it was due to allergies/congestion. I give him half a benadryl 2xs a day (per her suggestion) and he is SO much better.
