Today I took my dog out walking in the woods by my house. There was a smell of decay, and we came upon the body of another dog. I thought that was sad, but that's nature for you.
Then I found another one. And another one. And another one. And another one. And another.....
They were all in a similar state of decay (recent), within a few feet of one another and presumably dumped at the same time.
WHY??? I can understand people leaving a dog corpse in the woods if their pet died and they had nowhere else to put it, but there were at least 6!! WTF??!! I can't think of a plausible or logical reason anyone would have to dump 6 dead dogs in the woods. Puppy mill rejects? Doggy serial killer? I was totally creeped out and am still thinking about it. Bad dreams in store...

Call your animal control first thing in the AM.

That would bother me too.

Yeah, I feel like I should do something but don't know what.
There is a barely functioning rural animal shelter in my town, but no animal control officers. They do not respond to calls of any sort. Not sure what else there is to do about this, if anything.

It occurs to me that it could be dog fighting related.

Call local law enforcement. You never know when what you say might trigger something or give them a clue in an ongoing investigation, etc. Call tomorrow. They need to at least ascertain, if possible, how these dogs died - shot, etc. Your tip could be important.

i would file a report with your local sherifs dept/cops. it sounds like potentially a dog fight ring dump ground, or a "serial killer" both shoudl be taken VERY seriously

It doesn't have to be animal control. Call the police. I would call tonight, before a wild animal messes with the evidence. There was a case of some nut killing 7 dogs in Houston a few weeks ago. This could be something similar, and whoever did it may just keep on doing it.

Call the police, right now! Let us know what happens.

That must have been awful for you to see. I hope whoever responsible is found, quickly, before any more dogs die.

I hate to say this but it's possible it was a local vet's office. That happened here many years ago. A local vet's office was tossing the poor passed away angels in the dumpster! Not exactly the same thing, but they were shut down if memory serves me correctly. Definitely call the authorities so hopefully the person who caused it can be brought to justice.
