So we got a dog with kennel cough, finished his medication and still hacking away. We found this primalix KC product in hopes to assist with his coughing. My mother in law recommended children cough medicine without histamine or any of those other nasty things. The cough med help at night, but its still going on. I also noticed today my cat might be getting it

Question is.... primalix KC do anything or a scam?

I'd check with the vet before adding any human remedies. It might be that the hacking will just have to wear itself out.

I agree. Check with the vet.

It could be as simple as a phone call to your vet -- no packing up the pup to take him there, and maybe not even a vet bill. Just call your vet, tell him/her what you've said here, and see what they say.

Good luck.

My labs got that once even with the vaccination.

The vet did not want us to take them in.

They got a round of antibiotics and a decongestant.

Then in a month they were re-vaccinated.

The vet did come to the house the next day.

the kennel cough vaccine is pretyt much a joke

op, your cat cannot catch kennel cough from your dog...so if your cat is hacking it either has a hairball, or it has a cold/cough/something completly seperate...or your dog doesnt actually have kennel cough and they both have the same virus or allergy thats causing the coughing.

please do NOT use human cough meidicine unless specifically directed to by your vet, most human medications contain ingredients often innert to make them taste better to humans or be absorbed qicker into the system that are DANGEROUS to dogs and cats..

Ive never heard of the item you mentioned...generally kennel cough is treated by just letting it run its course, sometimes a decongestant is perscribed...
antibiotics in the case of kennel cough are generally NOT advised because kennel cough can be viral OR bacterial (theres over 13 strains of which 7 are "very common" and the reast are "common") the kennel cough vaccine only rotects against 4-5 of those strains (and not very effectivly either lol) and treating with antibiotics without knowing which strain the dog has is like treating a kid with anitbiotics for a common cold...excessive and useless...

General rule of thumb, if shes eating and drinking no problem, not seeming lethargic or otherwise "seriously off" and just has a cough (and occasionally some phlem/gunk being coughed up once in a while generally after excersize most vets will let it run its coure, often telling the owner to isolate form other dogs, no collars (and especially no walking on a collar which can agrivate the situation) and if its bad put a small vapourizer or humidifier neer the dogs bed at night to help loosen the gunk.

Kennel cough is the doggy equivalent of a cold, it does not cross the species barrier, but it is contagious to other dogs through water droplets (coughing, sneezing ect), treatment is generally only done in EXTREEM cases. (kennel cough in young, old or immuno comprimised dogs can lead to pneumonia, so your looking for a refusal to eat or drink, nasal discharge, rapid breathing, or lethargy)
Dogs that interact on a rgular basis with other dogs (even if vaccinated for bordatella) will at somepoint get kennel cough.
It can take a while for the coughing to subside generally 3-4 weeks in most and up to 8 weeks in older or immuno compromised dogs),
if your realy worried about his coughing you can give him robitussin, HOWEVER you MUST MUST MUST talk to your vet FIRST to get the correct dosage!
you can also give a teaspoon of PURE organic honey every 4 hours to help sooth the throat.
