After four years of supporting my 16 year old labrador through the stages of degenerative myelopathy, that time came tonight suddenly.

I'm not going into detail. One minute he was fine. The next minute the sparkle in his eyes was suddenly gone.

We got the situation under control and he is sleeping peacefully for the night.

Even if he rebounds in the morning, tomorrow is the day.

We're going to spare him from experiencing final stage symptoms before they come.

When reading about degenerative myelopathy, the stages happen within months. But he has had it for 4 years.

Instead of each stage lasting mere months, his stages have lasted a couple of years before progressing to the next stages.

I'm thankful and amazed we've had him for so long.

Hopes, my thoughts are with you. At our home we light a candle for those beloved pets passing over...today the candle will be for your faithful companion whom you have been lucky enough to share your life with.

Peace to you today.

So sorry for you. I understand what you are going through as I have been there too. Brings tears to my eyes for the dog I lost not a year ago yet. Still not over it, even though I had her for 12 years, it doesn't feel like long enough.
