I drove the same old Neon for years and she loved to go for rides in the back seat. About a year ago I bought a newer car, a PT Cruiser with 14K miles on it and the dealer had done whatever dealers do to make it smell like a new car. I got her into the car exactly twice ( with much begging and pleading) and she seemed to enjoy it but now I can't get her in it at all and she's due for a vaccination so I have to get her to the vet. I know it's not as easy to get into as the Neon was but at home she jumps onto beds and sofas without hesitation. I've tried a Rubbermaid stepstool but she won't use it , same with a board but that's even worse, she can't get any traction. I've tried putting dog biscuits in the back seat. I've run out of ideas. Can anyone help me?
Is she trying to jump in back? The side rear doors should not be a problem I would think, a PT Cruiser isn't much higher than a Neon. Maybe she's just scared of the big back cargo area? How about just the back seat?

I'm no expert here, but what if you were to sit in the back sear with the dog until she felt comfortable. You could then give her a treat or try too, and then make your escape.
Is there a toy or blanket that would make her feel more at ease.
Are you able to pick her up, and put her in the back.
For almost 14 years my pal Skeeter (rottie/lab/shep) rode shotgun in my pickup. When her arthritus prevented her from jumping that high, i made an angled ramp with a wood pallet, so she could walk in.
I had not been bothering to put her pinch collar (for walking) when I was just trying to entice her into the car. Yesterday for some reason I put it on her and she jumped right into the car!!! We went for a nice drive and I was able to get her to the vet for her shot. Live and learn. Thanks for all the suggestions, really appreciated.
