Too many women remain in abusive relationships for fear their pets will be injured after they leave. Read the story about a brave and heroic Dane who saved the life of his owner and how she refused to leave him behind.

I recently learned of a new organization in my area that was created to provide foster homes for pets of women who are going in to shelters. Once they are on their feet and able to move out of the shelter they can be reunited with their pets.

Not quite as good as having your pet with you to spend time with each day but it it enables those women to leave a bad situation it's a much better option that staying to try and protect the pet or having to give it up forever, perhaps to a shelter where it might be euthanized.

When I had to go to a Womans Shelter I had to leave my animals behind. Came home to 1 Dead Dog! And when we were moving he came back in dead of nite & turned loose my horses!

unreal

After seeing the incredible heartbreak of left-behind pets during Katrina and the tsunami in Japan, I think rescue (of people) organizations are realizing folks just aren't willing to leave their pets behind even if they know it could mean the end of life for everybody involved. Hopefully changes are happening in that regard.
