I have a 5yr old female jack russell, yesterday she started shaking really badly and panting heavily, shes eating and drinking fine and she seems ok apart from this, i dont know if shes sick or if she knows that i was in hospital getting injections and shes worried about me, she is my baby and goes everywhere with me, she does play and mess about with my children but she wont leave my side today. Any help or advice would be great

Hi candyfloss, I have a 2yr old Jack Russell and she trembles when she feels stressed, I found out that many of them do this if they are anxious or stressed. The farrier who shoes my horses has a male J R and he also does this quite severley, he also lifts his back leg and hops around as though he is hurt, been checked out with the vet and nothing wrong. The vet says they are intelligent wee dogs and pick up if something is different and the trembling is nothing to worry about, although no panting so I would keep my eye on her for a while, maybe she can smell the hospital from you and is a little anxious for you. I am sure she will be fine, just give her more reassurance till she settles down. wee Lynne

It is incredible how intuitive our dogs are ...its as if we share parts of the same soul. But it can be a vicious circle....if you are stressed by how she is acting she will probably pick up on that too....and so it goes.

Trembling/shaking and panting can also be a sign of pain. I'd take her to the vet.

I have a mini dachshund that does the same thing. Even with her hind leg. She has been examined by 2 vets and she is fine. She is also my baby and goes every where I go. But if you are concerned then take the dog to a vet and have her checked out.
