The smartest most trainable dog I have ever had is a Boston Terrior...(love this bread). Right now I have a yellow lab that we rescued...after the initial getting to know each other...she has been a very good dog. I just wish she would bark and let us know when someone walks up on our property. She loves everyone.

We have three purebred German Shepherd Dogs and one genuine rescue mutt puppy and have adopted several stray cats and one bitchy bird. My favorite is the one I am playing with at the moment. One of the advantages of having 11.26 heavily wooded acres with 2.5 acres cleared out of the center with a large fenced in back yard. The German Shepherds keep both Deer and Raccoons out of the garden in the front yard, we also feed a number of feral cats and a couple of families of foxes. They hunt the garden and keep out all the rodents et al that would eat the garden in the dark. Ain't symbiosis grand!!

I like Yorkies and Daschunds, but have always wanted an English Bulldog.

Beagles have my heart.

My heart dog was a beagle/german shepherd mix. Someday I want another. However, there are many breeds I love, and very few I'm not a fan of. Mutts are wonderful, too.

Collies. My grandparents had the sweetest rough coats. So calm. I have a smooth coat and apparently smooth coats tend to be on the hyper side. I was expecting that calm graceful creature like my grandparents had. lol. Instead I have Mr. Commander that needs to patrol the yard and bark at strangers. A good walk tires him out. Taking him to training was fun. He was the star. I felt like some guru dog trainer because he picked up on everything!

I need a smart dog that I can train easily with housebreaking. I will clean up dog hair all day long but urine and poop? No, it upsets me. I had my collie trained in less than a week. My beagle? UGHHHHHH. She is a doll but not so bright. I still will find the occasion accident in the house. She gets an attitude sometimes and doesn't want to pee outside. I heard too many horror stories about beagles but adopted one anyway. No more beagles for me.

Regards poodles; Teacups and Toy Poodles tend to be the yappers, mini's and standards are more laid back.

One thing to be aware of, poodles need to be clipped regularly. Mine are groomed monthly, and this can be a chore. In fact, most of the rescue poodles are because of this, people grow tired of having to constantly wash, clip, clean ears, etc., so the poor dog goes to the pound. Poodles are very smart, very easy to train, they make great companions, but they are high maintenance. Every month at grooming time we clip off enough hair to build a another dog.
