if you can not pay the bills, call a rescue group, they will help, however, the puppy will be for a home who will pay vet bills. the dog will, and you need to agree, it is their dog.

not easy, as having money. Yes, dogs break our heart.

First off what part of the leg is broken? Which leg is broken? How did the leg get broken? Second, why do you need to go to that praticular specialist? There are several specialist in and around Raleigh that would be willing to do orthopedic work. Here is a website you can try, Welcome to Carolina Veterinary Specialists They are vets that repair fractures. You can also go to American College of Veterinary surgeons aka ACVS at ACVS - Find a Surgeon
You can click on the state and country, then click on the one that says Area of Surgical Emphasis:and click on small animal gen and ortho. There is more than one vet that is qualified to do this surgery. You might find one that will work with you. And as someone else posted, the vet that origanlly put the banage on might somehow be liable. Figuring that your son did everything that the vet told him to do. It is also worth looking into. As for some of these specialist, some are referral only. Luckly the specialist that I work for is not referral, so we get some that just call or stop by looking for surgery. You might have more options, so look first. You might not have too much time either, the sooner the leg is fixed the better. I am thinking $3000 is a little high, but I am going by prices in Texas. I would say that you would spend at least $2000. You might even call around to some regular vets to see if they fix fractures, some do. My regular vet does. Good luck, I hate to see pups go through this.

Some vets do, sometimes you just gotta ask. When we started breeding 8 years ago and our vet started giving us a reduced rate and we pay monthly.
It is good business for him because we have quite a few dogs (6 at the moment) and we have puppies once a year. All of that adds up to us spending thousands of dollars a year at the vet. On average we probably spend $2000-$5000 a year.

We usually recommend to our buyers that if they are needing a good vet to check out the vet that we use and most do. We have helped the vet gain probably about 15-20 new patients and families over the last 8 years.

I adopted a little beaglemix from a rescue group when she was 6 months old. She had been hit by a car when she was just a baby. Her leg was broken in 2 places. They set her leg and she healed OK but she limps a little but you can see the one front leg is smaller than around than the other. It sure doesn't stop her from running or playing. I remember reading the article in the paper said they paid 1,500.00 in vet bills.

Because they run a business and need to get paid. Charge the bill to a credit card and make payments to the credit card company. That's their business...loaning money.

If you don't have the money, call one of the animal rescue organizations and see if they can't help you to raise the money.

Did he check to see if there's a military installation nearby? A vet there could take care of him at little to no cost.

How is that possible? I'm not doubting you, but it just make me wonder how it could be so.......I guess the military/our tax dollars pick up the tab?

Sorry, but some of this stuff really burns me up. Dogs cost money, if you don't have money, don't get a dog.......it's not much different than children in that way .

I agree, dogs do cost money.

If the military installation has working dogs they need to have a vet.

The military working animals get first priority care. After that they see other animals. You pay whatever the actual cost of the treatment, nothing more. It's not done on a for profit basis.

seriously? its one thing to know you have to spend money on annual vet visits, food, medication, etc. But even that is not $3,000 in an entire year! With children you have health insurance, and if they have a broken leg you aren't usually required to pay that much cash up front.
