To clarify: my 14 1/2 year old, 40 pound mixed breed.

Dogs whose birthdates are unknown are often guesstimated by their teeth or some other condition. However, it's a sure thing that an old dog is truly old, and this old boy floating with his person can be whatever age he wants to be. Beautiful.

The only problem is with the alleged age of the dog.
a shepherd or a shepherd mix or any large dog is not going to live to 19yrold.
14 -15yr old sure but 19??

only small breeds live this long and the worlds oldest dog only lived to be 26
Meh...

My grandfather had an 85 lb. labrador live to 19. Big dogs have a genetic deep-end also.

That said, I wouldn't necessarily accept the dog's alleged age as gospel either...

The worlds oldest dog only lived to be 26 and it was a small dog.

Yes, it is very touching story,
I just wish it didn't start with a embellishment.
jmo
I think your negative emoticons have gotten the best of you. Thank you for sharing the info on what you believe to be the oldest living dog. Which btw has nothing to do with this story.

How do YOU know it is an embellishment? Were you there when the dog was picked up by the owner? Who cares how old the dog is in this story.

We have a 15 year old poodle mix that was dumped on our property because she had no hair. She is a very sweet and intelligent girl and we love her. That is not an embellishment.

Then why did you respond to my post?

Hint. The age of the dog is in the story concerning the dog or we would not be discussing it. Where do you think we got the alleged age from,
Out of the air?

Questing the age has no bearing on if you or the dog is loved or not.

There is nothing negative about questioning the age of the dog nor does it change how he cares for his dog.

I love my dogs more than some of my family members, I will do anything I can for my dogs now and when they get old.

But I can still see reality and count to 19.

Do you ever think that some folks just might embellish a story to tug at your heart strings or to gain popularity or money?

Not that a dog owner would ever do such a thing.
Especially a kind, soft spoken man who loves his dog.

I too always envision my dogs living forever but that's not a reality.

And again , YES it is a touching story.

ps knowing the dog is old and at the end of the road we feel the sadness and the impending loss, we put our feelings into play as we know the end is near.

Why did we need to know the age of the dog?
Emotions.

Second right has personal experience with medical treatment of senior dogs in that age range. Again, do you have any reason to suspect that is a lie?

I look at my active 40 pound mixed breed and can easily envision several more years of her companionship, despite her diabetes, hypothyroidism, and cataracts.

I am SO sick of cynical, negative people.

Look. The photographer is friends with the guy who owns the dog. She put the picture on her facebook page. She takes pictures of weddings and pets. The picture blew up from there. There was no embellishment and she had no idea the thing would go viral. The dog owner had virtually nothing to do with it going viral; it was a picture taken for his personal use and he gave permission for her to post it on Facebook.

That is your opinion.
Who cares who took the photo.
She has no bearing on the story.
What she does has no bearing on the story.
It going viral has no bearing on the story or the age of the dog.

How do you know?

I LOVE when someone LOVES their dog/pet so much.

Hopefully this won't be the last story about this dynamic duo.

Thanks for putting it on here.
